Athletics Event Specialist
Hourly Rate: $19.05
This position is an on-campus, part-time, up-to 19-hour appointment based in Champaign, Illinois.

The Athletics Event Specialist is a
member of the Athletic Department staff and will assist in the day-to-day
operations and coverage needs for the Athletic department's events.
The Athletics Event Specialist for Athletics is a 19
hour/non-student appointment in place to help with setting up for events,
scheduling of workers for all home events and coverage needs assigned by the
Director of Athletics and the Assistant Director of Athletics. Internal
and external events may occasionally necessitate an altered work
schedule. The Athletics Events Specialist must be able to work
independently and consistently communicate with all event employees so all are
aware of any and all events and changes.

Essential Job Functions:
- Schedule workers for all home events here at Parkland College.
- Supervise all aspects of home events that the Athletic Events Specialist is assigned to manage on their own, addressing all game management situations as they arise.
- Assist with game day operations, including field/gymnasium set up, welcome, and facilitate teams and officials as they arrive, make sure employees are to their assigned job and ready to go prior to the event, reporting any issues to the Athletic Director or Assistant Athletic Director after the conclusion of the event.
- Schedule drivers for all away travel events for Cobra Athletics.
- Serve as a positive role model to create a positive environment for all employees while promoting good sportsmanship. Promote collaborative work to ensure staff complete all duties in accordance with Parkland's mission and values.
- Follow up and report all issues after event coverage to Athletic Director or Assistant Athletic Director.
- Assist with team operations including organization of the travel details to and from matches. This role does not require travel with teams.
- Facilitate all aspects of concession functions and gate/admissions functions.
- Ensure that our live streaming services are set up and functioning properly.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate Degree or equivalent with experience in event needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with diverse populations, including all event employees, including student workers.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
- Availability to work nights and weekends.
- Supervision skills and professional judgement needed to effectively lead manage a college athletic contest and lead all event employees.
- Supervising and coaching experience; including working with high school and/or college age players.
- In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
