The Marshall Operations Systems, Services, and Integration (MOSSI) contract has an excellent opportunity for a Systems Engineer to facilitate design changes to NASA Marshall Space Center's Huntsville Operations Support Center (HOSC), specifically for Hardware/Storage and associated software infrastructure development and maintenance.

The applicant will work in a dynamic team environment and will be responsible for working with the NASA customer, users, including commercial and international partners to capture and negotiate requirements, user stories and operations concepts and then drive those change requests through the systems engineering lifecycle.

The applicant will work closely with the MOSSI Principal Architect and Principal Network Architect in addition to Procurement, Systems Engineers, Systems Administrators, Software Engineers, System Testers, Ground Operators, and Project Leads to facilitate changes across all parts of these complex systems. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are required for customer interactions. Strong initiative, teamwork and problem-solving skills are also required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with customers, users, and engineers to assist in analyzing user requirements, user stories, and operations concepts.

  • Support high-level requirement assessments and assist in facilitating detailed assessments performed by technical teams.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining schedules for work components to ensure timely delivery of project milestones.

  • Help create and update documentation for design and change instruments, ensuring attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Perform basic data processing, data reduction, and data mining activities under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Assist in creating vendor specifications for required hardware and systems. Review vendor quotes with oversight to ensure compliance with specifications.

  • Support senior team members in conducting analysis, assessments, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

  • Collaborate with senior engineers in systems architecture design and integration efforts.

  • Provide systems engineering support to implementation organizations, ensuring alignment with project goals.

  • Assist with inward communication within the organization and outward communication with customer contacts to ensure clarity and alignment on project objectives.

  • Work effectively in a team setting, contributing ideas and supporting team collaboration.

  • Help capture and refine requirements, user stories, and operations concepts by working closely with NASA customers, users, and commercial and international partners.

  • Learn and support the systems engineering lifecycle, gaining familiarity with the processes and tools required for successful implementation.

  • Provide OpenShift Administration/Engineering support, including troubleshooting and managing OpenShift platforms with guidance from senior engineers.

  • Assist with automation tasks using tools like Ansible and Ansible Automation Platform, scripting OpenShift/Linux administrative tasks.

  • Perform Linux system administration tasks to support infrastructure and end-users.

  • Work with OpenShift and Linux end users to assist in overcoming daily administrative challenges.

  • Write clear and concise processes and procedures to support platform administration and engineering activities.

  • Learn and adopt Infrastructure as Code (IaC) techniques to support modern engineering practices.

  • Gain familiarity with GitOps techniques and tools like GitLab, Ansible, and Terraform to support automation and version-controlled infrastructure management.

Education andExperience:

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or similar degree
  • OR 5 years of relevant experience
  • IT degree preferred
  • RedHat and AWS Certifications preferred

Required Skills:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while professionally representing the MOSSI organization.
  • Highly motivated and eager to learn and apply new concepts, tools, and software.
  • Demonstrates strong personal initiative and a proactive approach to tasks and challenges.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve issues effectively.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment, contributing ideas and supporting collective goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, essential for clear and professional interactions with customers and team members.
  • Experience with EXSI servers with VM instances, LANs, wireless networks, firewalls, Linux and Windows OS's, Intel based systems, PC's/Mac's, and Cisco hardware and software

Desired Skills:

  • Understanding of human spaceflight requirements
  • Leadership skills
  • Knowledge of the HOSC Sub-Systems or similar mission data center
  • Experience with ServiceNow or similar ITIL workflow toolset
  • Experience across various areas of the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, and documentation
  • Experience with agile development practices
  • Experience with SANs, Kubernetes containers, SDA's including migrations, VPNs, distributed systems, and NASA
  • Experience with DOORS Next Generation requirements management tool

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week and offers a flexible work schedule Monday through Friday during core business hours.

Other Position Requirements:

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Must possess a valid Real ID or Star ID.
  • Must be able to travel, including air travel.
