The Opportunity:

Assist the Occupational and Industrial Safety Program in conducting field inspections and providing professional safety services to the university community. This person will investigate, evaluate, and monitor work hazards to determine their potential to cause harm, recommend corrective actions, and determine the effectiveness of the hazard control methods. The functional title of this position is Industrial Safety Specialist.

Classification Title: Safety Specialist I

Responsibilities:


  • Conducts safety field inspections and observations on the following programs: Personal Protective Equipment, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, Aerial Lifts, Walking/Working Surfaces, Hand and Power Tools, Power Industrial Trucks, and others.

  • Support Occupational Safety Programs (Ergonomics, Confined Spaces, Respiratory Protection, Indoor Air Quality, Hearing Conservation, and others) as directed.

  • Assists with inspections and update of the Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) inventory throughout main campus and regional campuses.

  • Assists with the Sidewalk Safety Inspections and the Illumination Assessment performed annually.

  • Assists with first aid kits refills, maintain and update an inventory of first aid kits throughout main campus and regional campuses, as well as ensuring an adequate inventory of supplies.

  • Provides university-wide support in all matters of occupational, industrial, and workplace safety.

  • Provides support as essential personnel as the need arises. Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in Safety, Safety Management, or a related field.

  • 2+ years of safety management experience.

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.

  • Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP).

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification.


Special Instructions to the Applicants:

The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $23.95 to Negotiable. The final rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

This position requires a valid Class E driver's license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
