DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A Revenue Tax Auditor conducts fair and equitable audits to determine taxpayer compliance with applicable laws and regulations, effectively and efficiently. This position prepares for audit examinations by performing preliminary planning and reviewing taxpayer reporting and audit history as well as any special instructions. You will identify and analyze records required and design appropriate audit procedures in accordance with applicable tax manuals. Work will be at field audit sites, where you will visually inspect taxpayers' facilities to ascertain business activities and limit of operations. Communication will be key as you will be expected to contact taxpayers or their authorized representatives to schedule audits, resolve questions, and conduct pre and post audit conferences to explain audit procedures and findings. You will have the opportunity to respond to questions and educate taxpayers by suggesting changes in accounting procedures to correctly report future tax liabilities. This includes informing taxpayers or authorized representatives of appeal rights, timeframes, and procedures. This position completes and documents audit findings and files various administrative reports in accordance with Commonwealth, Departmental and Bureau policies.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, ad hoc. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Revenue Tax Auditor Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional accounting or auditing experience and a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 15 college credits in accounting, tax, or auditing; or
  • Eligibility to sit for the Certified Public Accountant examination.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
