SUMMARY Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. Determines method of shipment. Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons. Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers. Inserts proper items into containers/boxes/crates. Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with strapping. Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers. Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages. Accurately count contents of received products and parts. Maintain receiving/shipping records as outlined in our procedures. Routes items to departments and personnel. Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications. Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies to ensure adequate supplies are on hand to meet production needs. Operates forklift truck or uses hand truck to load / unload merchandise to / from trucks picking up from or delivering shipments to the loading dock. Operates battery operated hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area. Operates forklift truck or uses hand truck to move, transfer or transport hazardous materials and/or hazardous wastes to other locations within the facility. Unloads hazardous materials from delivery trucks and loads hazardous wastes to trucks for shipment to appropriate disposal facilities in accordance with DOT and RCRA regulations. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1 (one) year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to communicate effectively in English and understand verbal and written work instructions and safety procedures. Ability to read and write simple sentences, complete reports and fill out standardized forms and documents. Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group situations with customers, vendors, truck drivers or other pick up and delivery personnel as well as with company supervisors and other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. COMPUTER SKILLS Ability to use and operate personal computers and bar-code scanners. Ability to learn use of basic data-entry operations and receiving software. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS Ability to train and be certified in fork lift operation. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must complete training in the requirements of loading, labeling, transferring and moving hazardous materials in accordance with RCRA regulations.
