DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Office of Behavioral Health Caseworkers under the general supervision of the Casework Manager and Casework Supervisor, Information, Referral, and Emergency Services (IRES), acts as delegate, liaison, resource person, coordinator and consultant between the IRES Division and the treatment facilities, courts, petitioners, clients, attorneys and community agencies for purposes of implementing applicable sections of the MH Procedures enacted July 9, 1976, as amended November 26, 1978, which encompasses in-patient and out-patient care on an involuntary or voluntary basis.
Receives phone calls or personal office visits from probable consumers, consumer representatives/petitioners regarding voluntary or involuntary care, treatment, or examination. Ascertains facts to ensure that life-threatening behavior is involved and that the individual taking the mentally disabled into custody is acting in good faith, if involuntary treatment is needed. Attends the hearing as a County DHS delegate, as necessary. Receives Critical Incident Reports from service providers. Enters information concerning missing consumers, deaths, fires, suicides, arrests and "other" major incidents into the computer for distribution to those with a need to know. Receives Reports of "elopements" and "return elopements" of Mental Health consumers from hospitals. Enters them into computer for distribution to those with a need to know.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- The incumbent may be required to work the first shift (12:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.) or third shift (4:30 p.m. - 12:30 a.m.), depending upon office needs and staffing assignments.
- After Hours Rotating Shifts
- Telework: Hybrid work of up to 2 days per week after 6 months of employment.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; or
- Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; or
- A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major; or
- A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social service agency; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
