IT@JH Administration and Finance is seeking anAssociate Director of Finance who will play a critical leadership role in the financial planning and operational strategy of IT@JH, supporting both Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins Health System. This position is responsible for managing the financial operations of high-impact initiatives within IT@JH.

A major responsibility of this role is to lead the development of ten-year capital and five-year operating budgets. This includes building and maintaining complex financial models"such as payroll forecasts, maintenance cost plans, depreciation schedules, and cash flow projections"and ensuring their integration into institutional financial systems. The Associate Director will also oversee the consolidation and reporting of capital plans and support the submission of budgets into enterprise platforms.

This role requires a deep understanding of GAAP accounting, capital planning, and the financial nuances of large-scale IT and research infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will bring experience managing budgets for large scale enterprise IT organizations, high-performance computing, AI/ML platforms, and ERP modernization efforts.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Partner with the finance leader of the unit and other key leaders in their designated area in the development of annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Perform trending analysis and work with finance staff and administrative leadership to develop projections and forecasts.
  • Identify potential financial risks and partner with the finance leader of the unit to ensure strategic approaches are taken to address issues.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual financial reports, reconciliations and analyses.
  • Train and coach departmental finance staff and administrative leaders in effective financial management.
  • Work with administrative leaders and finance staff to resolve budget issues and other financial reporting/compliance/audit issues.
  • Review and authorize transactions as necessary to ensure expenditures are in compliance with institutional policies and governmental regulations.
  • Partner with the finance leader of the unit in the development of financial models in support of new initiatives and programs/products.
  • Design and maintain financial models to evaluate "what if" scenarios to reflect possible changes in key areas.
  • Perform research, investigation, and financial review of new proposals for expansion or enhancement.
  • Serve as back up for the finance leader of the unit at university-wide and divisional meetings as requested.
  • Serve on project committees and working groups.
  • Handle special projects at the direction of the unit leader.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Research Administration or a related field.
  • Eight years of progressive management experience in higher education finance or administrative roles.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field.
  • Professional experience in higher education or an academic medical center.
  • Experience managing budgets for high-performance computing, AI/ML platforms, or cloud-based research environments.
  • Demonstrated success in financial modeling and forecasting for multi-year, multi-stakeholder technology projects.
  • Familiarity with academic research funding models and cost recovery strategies.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to align financial planning with evolving technology landscapes, including AI and ERP modernization.
  • Strong communication skills to translate complex technical and financial information for diverse audiences, including researchers, IT leaders, and university executives.
  • Customer service orientation with a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to build relationships across diverse teams and functions.
  • High level of autonomy and accountability.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Starting Salary Range: $99,800 - $175,000 Annually ( Commensurate w/exp.)

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
