The Clinical Lead - Phlebotomy is responsible for training, onboarding, and competency sign-off of all Laboratory Assistants, as well as aiding the Phlebotomy Manager with daily and weekly scheduling duties for the Lab Float Pool. In this role, you will provide exceptional customer service, perform skilled training on specimen collection techniques, while assisting in the creation and maintenance of a laboratory training curriculum for new and existing employees.

Principal Responsibilities



  • Help model the ideal team member experience through excellent onboarding, training, performance feedback, skill coaching and learning opportunities.
  • Assist in evaluating phlebotomy needs, current practices, and training development for new hires, existing staff, and students.
  • Provide training to clinical staff that operate and maintain POC instrumentation and/or testing.
  • Develops plans with Nursing Educators or equivalent for the training and competency assessment of non-laboratory personnel performing testing.
  • Assist with policy and procedure development to ensure compliance.
  • Help ensure adequate staffing levels to support operational needs.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities to improve procedures, processes, speed, quality, and effectiveness
  • Responsible to ensure improvement and/or standardization initiatives are implemented.
  • Participates in the interview, selection and hiring of new employees.
  • Provides input to Managers/Director on corrective action and performance improvement plans for employees.
  • Communicates effectively with new hires and current employees, as well as direct and indirect Laboratory leadership.
  • Maintains compliance with all standards set forth by relative accrediting/regulatory agencies
  • Provide continuous training to phlebotomy staff as directed
  • Review daily/weekly schedule with Managers and altering employees' schedules as needed.
  • Promote teamwork, cohesiveness, and effective communication among coworkers
  • Perform all duties of a phlebotomist when needed and participates as an active member of the phlebotomy float pool if support is necessary.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.


Education/Experience



  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency is required.
  • Previous experience as a phlebotomist; 4 years is preferred (Float experience desired)

Working Environment



  • Laboratory and Classroom.
  • Some travel required.
