The Systems and Compliance Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating system related design activities by working with the design team for the Federal refrigerated merchandiser product lines. The individual will guide the teams to design and develop new products and controls sequence to ensure they meet regulatory requirements and have a relentless focus on cost reduction/product improvements to position Federal as best-in-class in our served markets. This role requires a professional, self-starter, capable, hands-on manager able to work firsthand in the engineering laboratory and assist on the factory floor if necessary to obtain company objectives.
What You'll Do
- New product development and value enhancement of refrigerated merchandisers, including overall project management.
- Refrigeration system design of self-contained and remote models for all existing and new refrigerated display case models.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid flow, heat transfer, and system control.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable design, performance, lab test results, safety, and energy standards. These include UL471, UL 60335-2-89, NSF7, ASHRAE 72, CSA, DOE, and EPA standards.
- Stay on top of current industry trends, ensuring that the company maintains and expands its design and technology leadership position.
- Interface with operations and assist in resolving production problems and product performance issues that arise in manufacturing.
- Work with and assist in resolving field service issues as it pertains to refrigeration system design, air flow, controls and installations.
- Oversee and support product testing, create test plans, implement test plans and make recommendations to improve overall system performance.
- Review and analyze data acquisition test results in engineering test lab and make appropriate design changes to keep the development process moving forward.
- Specify applicable refrigeration components such as compressors, evaporation, and electronic controls. Work with Purchasing and Inventory Control in the ordering of sample components.
- Lead the development of the controls to define and develop products, and evaluate mechanical and electro-mechanical devices, and implement new generation controls while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, cost, and design.
- Help conduct and introduce new technology, improve productivity, and product development projects to design new products or components or subassemblies to improve the function, reliability, and cost of existing products and components.
- Develop and execute plans to improve product performance and reliability.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
- 8+ years of refrigeration or air conditioning design experience.
- Experience in directly/indirectly managing an HVACR laboratory and/or oversight of technician activities preferred.
- Exceptional communication, oral and written, including presentation techniques.
- Excellent prioritization to manage competing lab tasks and projects to ensure on-time completion.
- Experience in Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) or Digital Engineering tools.
- Knowledge of the design, performance prediction, and cost analysis process for air-to-refrigerant heat exchangers applied to the method of refrigeration evaporation.
- Strong problem solving and creative thinking skills.

The Systems and Compliance Manager primarily works in an office environment, however, may be required to perform duties in the Engineering test lab, manufacturing and/or warehouse setting.
