Description

As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks an Academic Reentry Coordinator for the Women's College Partnership (WCP) to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by overseeing a new grant-funded program that provides a pathway from coursework with WCP at the Indiana Women's Prison to Marian's online program. The individual in the position is responsible for the success of the new program's mission to ensure a stable and thriving college opportunity for incarcerated women in Indiana after release.

The Academic Reentry Coordinator will work under the supervision of the WCP Program Director to establish the new pathway to Marian's online program, serving WCP alumnae as they return to their communities and opt to pursue further undergraduate education through the online campus at Marian. This position will collaborate with the WCP Program Director, Marian's online program, and relevant units across Marian's Indianapolis, campus to build a comprehensive pathway for students to transition from WCP to online as seamlessly as possible. This will include connecting students with admissions, advising, financial aid, and other student services, as well as coordinating the resource provision detailed in the grant, which may include a loaner laptop, textbook reimbursement/vouchers, and other supplies. The position may also include entering the prison as an IDOC volunteer at WCP. As a result of their position, the Academic Reentry Coordinator serves as an embodiment of the University to the students leaving WCP and continuing at Marian Online. The responsibilities must be performed in a consistent, reliable, transparent manner in order to create a learning opportunity for students that will continue a new phrase of their Marian education journey.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Actively engages the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan Intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
  • Work effectively with the WCP Program Director to structure and implement the new grant-funded pathway to Marian online for WCP alumnae. This will include building out the necessary policies and procedures to successfully launch and maintain this new grant-funded program, in keeping with the terms of the grant.
  • Coordinate all students handoffs from WCP to Marian online and serve as an ongoing liaison to connect student to the proper support structures.
  • Provide outreach to all WCP alumnae currently in the community post-release to make them aware of the new programmed offer to connect them with this new opportunity.
  • To the extent that entrance into the prison is necessary, maintain a professional and highly functional relationship with the necessary staff from IDOC and IWP, including all volunteer and faculty training, necessary 'gate clearances' , and other paperwork required or expected by IDOC or IWP staff.
  • Connect and maintain relationships with various departments at Marian's online and Indianapolis campuses to provide students with as seamless a transition as possible.
  • Report progress of the program with WCP Program Director and develop an ongoing reporting mechanism to ensure that students are adequately supported.
  • Coordinate with WCP Program Director and the grants and development offices at Marian to explore opportunities to add additional funds to realize financial sustainability beyond the initial three years.
  • There is no expectations to provide reentry support for WCP alumnae or students, whether pre-and post-release, beyond helping them navigate this academic pathway.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

To be qualified for this position the candidate should have earned a bachelor's level degree or beyond. Preference will be given to those with previous experience working with incarcerated students and/or reentry. Demonstrated experience in administration of programs and funding is expected. The applicant must have strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Interpersonal skills, including excellent written and oral communication skills are a necessary part of this position.
