Job Summary: |
This position is for an Entry-level Research Services Professional that supports Dr. Laureline Logiaco's research program emphasizing the use of mathematical and computational methods to address fundamental questions in neuroscience and/or physiology. Broad research focuses are Neuroscience and Physiology, while particular domains of emphasis for the research include advanced applied computational methods development, theory, NeuroAI, and motor control. Duties include developing neural network models which emulate the mechanisms at play among the brain regions participating in motor control. This position is excellent for someone with experience working with artificial neural networks, who is interested in the fruitful interactions between neuroscience and machine learning, and who wants to explore ways to introduce inductive biases in artificial neural networks. Key Responsibilities / Duties:
Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders in the area of bioinformatics and data analysis Perform scientifically rigorous data management and bioinformatic analyses Develop neural network models using modern machine learning techniques Develop and implement complex analyses pipelines, programming, and data visualization techniques Creatively and effectively integrate data from multiple sources to accelerate discoveries Assist with the design and development of major programming projects Write custom scripts to access databases and analyze data Deploy code on computing cluster Optimize code for speed on the available hardware on the computing cluster Curate code for easy access to other users

Qualifications: |
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mathematics, Neurobiology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, or related field
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Biostatistics, Physics, Computer Science, Computational neuroscience, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or related field Experience training and/or analyzing neural network models with Pytorch One or more (1+) year professional level research experience One or more (1+) year of experience with training and/or interacting with modern neural network models (supervised learning, reinforcement learning, self-supervised learning) One of more (1+) year of experience deploying neural network models on computing clusters
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated fluency in Python, and willingness to keep up with new machine learning libraries (pytorch, lightning, ...) Knowledge of basic neurobiology concepts Strong knowledge of basic statistical and mathematical principles Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches Familiarity with statistical analytical concepts and methods Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

Anticipated Pay Range: |
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $52,103-$66,275 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
