About The Position The Commodity Trader I is responsible for implementing short-term hedging strategies and providing asset optimization & energy portfolio management for generation assets. Ameren Missouri's commodity traders hedge positions for the following commodities: wholesale energy, renewable energy power purchase agreements, electric transmission, electric capacity, ancillary service agreements, coal, coal transportation, rail surcharge, emissions allowances, emissions control commodities, natural gas, natural gas transportation & services, renewable energy credits, fuel oil, alternative fuels, uranium, and related nuclear fuel services (conversion, enrichment, fabrication). In addition, the candidate will coordinate the dispatch and fuel operations of the Ameren Missouri generation fleet. Key responsibilities include:
- Timely and accurately report data associated with fuel related contracts and work with Back Office to resolve discrepancies or disputes as required
- Verify and maintain records of fuel related transactions in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley and financial reporting requirements
- Coordinates coal delivery and transportation logistics
- Maintain effective communication with other commodity traders, gas supply, management, power dispatchers, energy centers, complimentary departments and external stakeholders.
- Execute interchange sales, purchases and operational duties (scheduling, tagging, and related functions)
- Establish credible and effective relationships with trading counterparties/market participants to recognize and develop opportunities.
- Act in accordance with Credit guidelines and the Ameren Missouri Risk policy, while recommending policy changes that improve Ameren Missouri's flexibility in the marketplace.
- Schedule natural gas and heating oil purchases,implement hedging instruments and real time purchases to achieve a balanced portfolio
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required. MBA preferred. One year of commodity industry experience required. Physical power, coal, or natural gas industry experience preferred. Experience with electric system operations, scheduling, tagging, power flows and generation technologies preferred. Experience in and/or knowledge of PJM and MISO market rules strongly preferred. Multi-commodity experience preferred. Significant experience in related fields may be considered in lieu of commodity exposure.
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate: Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Proven leadership, team building, organizational skills and administrative aptitude preferred. Excellent decision-making, analytical and computational skills are highly desired, as well as a grasp of marginal economic reasoning. Candidates must have ability to work in a fast- paced environment with critical time deadlines. Work hours will be flexible and the individual will be on-call at various times during non-working hours. This position requires employee background check according to NERC guidelines.
Additional Information Ameren's selection process includes a series of interviews and may include candidate testing and/or an individual aptitude or skill-based assessment. Specific details will be provided to qualified candidates. * Salary dependent upon individual credentials and position market pay level. Compensation Range: $82,400.00 - $127,700.00
At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
