Area Fleet Manager


Normally Reports to: Fleet Management and Acquisition Manager


Position Location: Jacksonville, FL

Job Objective: Responsible for overseeing National Fleet and Compliance programs for a network of distribution centers within the designated area, providing expert knowledge and guidance to local operations teams, and assisting them in Fleet Safety and Regulatory Compliance efforts. Collaborates with cross functional teams to coordinate motor vehicle fleet safety and compliance in their assigned area, working directly with leadership from distribution centers and shared services.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities: In addition to the essential job functions described below, all associates will perform duties as requested by management.



DOT Compliance & Management:



  • Collaborate with Fleet Asset Manager to coordinate Samsara set up and installation.
  • Partner with operations leadership at distribution centers to ensure drivers follow company policies related to pre- and post-trip DVIRs on all regulated trucks and trailers.
  • Ensure DVIRs are notated and resolved, and vehicle defects repaired by approved FMC vendors.
  • Maintain accurate fleet data in FMC database and communicate changes with Fleet Asset Manager.
  • Partner with operations leadership at distribution centers to support asset preventative maintenance (PM) to achieve 90% or better compliance according to Fleet Management Company (FMC) schedules.
  • Perform minimum of one multi-site visit per month to distribution centers within assigned area to complete safety and compliance vehicle audits. Visit each site a minimum of once per year.
  • Review all roadside inspections, ensure copies are turned into DOT Compliance team and defects corrected.
  • Champion a safety culture related to driver events review and coaching in Samsara
  • Support network-wide DOT initiatives, working as main POC for distribution centers within area.
  • Support M&A activities as needed.



Fleet Administration and Management:



  • Collaborate with operations leadership at distributor center to utilize corporately identified priority vendors to maximize Opex savings and maximize rebate program participation.
  • Provide support to Fleet Department leadership in annual CAPEX budget process as needed.
  • Audit motor vehicle fleet registrations, insurance & permits, and report issues to Fleet Asset Manager.
  • Support vehicle registration pre-requirements and ensure compliance with federal and state mandates.
  • Support Fleet Maintenance Manager direction of random audits of repair work (large expenditures).
  • Coordinate fleet asset movement and transfers as needed to ensure optimum utilization and support for customers and communicate asset shifts to Fleet Asset Manager.
  • Facilitate vehicle rental and leasing needs with Fleet Asset Manager.
  • Communicate Fleet Card requirements to Fleet Asset Manager.
  • Coordinate vehicle recall repairs with preferred vendors.
  • Support vehicle toll management program for all vehicles.
  • Support local operations teams and dispatch with DOT Compliance technical expertise to ensure timely customer deliveries and service.



Knowledge Skills & Abilities Requirements:



  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience with DOT and Fleet Management.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, primarily to cover distribution centers within assigned region.
  • CMV driving experience preferred.
  • Commercial Driver's License with Hazmat and Tanker endorsement preferred.
  • Excellent driving record required.
  • Experience with electronic logging platforms.
  • Excellent organizational skills, keen attention to detail, active listening skills and ability to prioritize in fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical information (e.g., shop manuals, manufacturers' specifications, warranties, parts catalogs, service orders) to estimate repair or modification costs, reconcile charges and perform vehicle diagnostics and modifications.
  • Knowledge and experience in fleet service procedures and federal and state laws regarding fleet management and operations.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Provide excellent support to internal customers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Climbing ladders, stairs and ramps.
  • Balancing, pushing and pulling.
  • Crouching, kneeling, reaching and grasping objects.


  • Walking: move about inside the office and/or branch facilities as well as airport/travel needs.
  • Sit/Stand: Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50 percent
