Massachusetts General Hospital
United States, Massachusetts, Boston
149 13th Street (Show on map)
Aug 07, 2025
The Research Engineer will play a key role in supporting in vivo imaging studies by managing data acquisition, image analysis, and the day-to-day operation and maintenance of small animal PET/MRI and PET/CT scanners. This core enables biomedical researchers to conduct cutting-edge, non-invasive imaging studies of animal models of human disease. The engineer will work closely with investigators to optimize imaging protocols, ensure high data quality, and maintain imaging equipment in excellent working order. This position requires a balance of hands-on technical skills, collaborative engagement with researchers, and routine system upkeep, with opportunities for involvement in protocol development, system testing, and imaging protocol optimization.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and record keeping.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Familiarity with biomedical imaging, animal handling, or preclinical research workflows is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in imaging acquisition software (Bruker Paravision, Mediso, Siemens) and in image analysis tools and scripting (e.g., MATLAB, PMOD, ImageJ, AMIDE) preferred.
  • Experience with rodent handling including anesthesia, intravenous injections, and arterial or venous cannulation is desired.
  • Experience with 3D printing, and basic machining or electronics is a plus.
