General Purpose

Under supervision of Vendor and Purchasing Manager, DFA Farm Supplies, purchase products and services from approved vendors and perform common order fulfillment practices. Partner closely with DFA Farm Supplies Stakeholders, such as sales and operational planning, strategic procurement, distribution, sales, and operations teams, to ensure that optimal inventory levels are maintained to meet business requirements. Communicate with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.

Job Duties and Responsibilities



  • Coordinate purchasing activities, review and process purchase requisitions, and place purchase orders.
  • Develop strong understanding of both purchasing & sales programs to ensure accurate and efficient execution of transactions that support positive business outcomes
  • Expedite orders where required to ensure constant supply against schedule changes
  • Review and manage invoice issues, shipping errors, late deliveries, replacement of materials not meeting company specifications, and cancellation of orders, keeping stakeholders updated throughout the process thru documented platform
  • Maintain effective logistics knowledge to coordinate and move shipments. Manage the scheduling, bill of lading, tracking and dispute process thru a plan that optimizes freight costs
  • Maintain procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, selling prices, delivery, product quality or performance
  • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with internal groups, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action
  • Maintain market intelligence and report changes to the Vendor Relations Manager to support with contract maintenance, supplier pricing agreements and promotions. Identify potential problem areas or conditions which could adversely affect the company's procurement position.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and discussions within operational procurement and provide input into procurement strategies

Education and Experience



  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, business, economics, supply chain management or related curriculum (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
  • 2 to 5 years of procurement, purchasing, buyer, supply chain management, finance, or related experience in ag business
  • Certification and/or License - may be required during course of employment


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Sound knowledge of procurement, supply chain, and general business principles
  • Sound knowledge of vendor product, services, and reliability
  • Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems
  • Skill in critical thinking and analysis
  • Able to negotiate
  • Able to organize time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals (i.e., organizational skills)
  • Able to prioritize work effectively and shift priorities in a deadline driven environment
  • Maintain a positive attitude and willingness to work collaboratively

  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
