Work involves a greater knowledge of office/clinic procedures and practice, independent judgment and problem-solving skills. Oncology Phone Communication Center Responsibilities:
- Take calls for anyone contacting the UNC Cancer Hospital. This includes patients, patient's associates, other hospitals and providers, pharmacies, students, and vendors.
- Schedule return appointments for the oncology clinics at the Basnight Cancer Hospital Chapel Hill and the Hillsborough Medical Office Building.
- Coordinate with other clinics and departments to schedule multi-part return appointments.
- Contact Return Patient access for more complex appointments.
- Contact New Patient Intake schedulers for patients requesting new appointments with the cancer department.
- Create detailed telephone encounters in the Epic medical record system for the purposes of notifying triage nurses and the patient's care team of any needs. This includes symptom reporting, prescription requests, requests for paperwork, communications from outside clinics, etc.
- Attend biweekly team huddles.
- Attend quarterly team meetings; these meetings occur outside of scheduled shift hours and are compensated.
