Job Description

The Impact You'll Make:

As our Prototype Technician, you'll play a key role in bringing product innovation to life by supporting the hands-on development, assembly, and testing of new compressor technologies.

Your impact? You'll help transform engineering concepts into real, functional prototypes that drive progress in sustainable HVACR solutions. Thanks to your precision and mechanical know-how, our engineers will have reliable, tested components to refine, improving performance, efficiency, and product reliability.

You'll collaborate with design engineers, project managers, and R&D teams, taking ownership of prototype builds, test support, and teardown analysis, helping us move toward a more innovative and efficient future

This is an in-office role, based in our Turbocor headquarter in Tallahassee, FL.

Job Responsibilities

In this role, you'll:

  • Build, assemble, and modify mechanical and electromechanical prototype components using hand tools, power tools, and standard shop equipment.

  • Support engineering teams by interpreting blueprints, schematics, and CAD drawings to execute detailed build instructions and provide feedback on performance or issues.

  • Conduct functional and performance tests on prototype compressors, document procedures and results, and support teardown and root cause analysis.

  • Set up and dismantle test stands and instrumentation systems (thermocouples, pressure transducers, vibration sensors, etc.) for development testing.

  • Maintain accurate build documentation and ensure the lab environment is clean, organized, and compliant with safety protocols.

Background & Skills

What We're Looking For:

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing, prototyping, fabrication, or R&D environments, with strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.

  • Experience reading engineering drawings and using precision measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, and multimeters.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, iterative development environment with minimal supervision, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel) for communication and documentation.

  • A mindset of continuous improvement, collaboration, and curiosity, with a genuine interest in building, testing, and refining high-performance mechanical systems.
