Position description

The Sue & Bill School of Nursing at the University of California, Irvine is currently accepting applications for the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Residency Program for the 2025-2026 academic year.

This is a full-time program is designed to develop expert family nurse practitioners equipped to serve diverse, underserved populations in community-based healthcare settings. In partnership with a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), the residency includes:

* Year 1 (Residency Training):

o Direct, hands-on experience in primary care within a community health setting, guided by a dedicated preceptor offering real-time feedback

o Rotations through multiple specialty clinic sites, gaining exposure to complex and commonly encountered conditions in vulnerable populations

o Weekly Didactic Sessions and Quality Improvement (QI) training to enhance clinical reasoning and systems-based practice

o Mentored clinical experiences with an emphasis on navigating complex healthcare delivery

Residents are appointed as Health Sciences Clinical Instructors in the school of nursing and the fellowship is overseen by the Nurse-OC Program Manager.

The program reflects UC Irvine's commitment to healthcare innovation, workforce development, and service to underserved communities, with a strong emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Our mission is to improve the competence, confidence, and retention of novice nurse practitioners through rigorous post-graduate training. Graduates will be prepared to deliver high-quality care, promote health equity, and lead within interdisciplinary teams.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree

Applicants must be board eligible/certified and licensed to practice as an FNP in California

Graduated from an accredited NP program within the past 24 months, with no prior employment as a nurse practitioner
