JOB SUMMARY:

The Optics and Photonics Theory Group at Saint Louis University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team investigating non-Hermitian light-matter interactions across various platforms, including disordered systems, nonlinear media, and other emerging photonic structures. This research has broad implications for applications such as spectroscopy, optical sensing, and laser engineering. The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to ongoing collaborative projects while also developing and pursuing an independent research agenda aligned with the group's and department's strategic directions. Candidates with a strong theoretical background in non-Hermitian optics, integrated quantum photonics, or related areas are especially encouraged to apply.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct theoretical research in non-Hermitian optics, particularly in random media and nonlinear quantum photonics
  • Collaborate with faculty and research staff on the development of theoretical models, experimental design, and data interpretation
  • Prepare and publish high-quality scientific papers and technical reports in peer-reviewed journals
  • Participate in grant writing and contribute to the identification of external funding opportunities
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations within the department and with national/international research partners

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field to optics and photonics (e.g., Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering).
  • Experience in conducting research in the field of optics and photonics; with deep knowledge in modeling light propagation in non-Hermitian random media.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab, Mathematica, or Python.
  • Proficiency in using electromagnetic simulation software packages
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
