Position Description

Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Supports the Continuous Improvement philosophy of the Operations Division & complies with the OD Safety Program to include all safety and health rules, regulations and operating policies and procedures. Complies with all attendance policies and guideline.
  • Ability to be trained in the functions of TMA for work orders & projects
  • Perform the disabling of fire alarm systems for work to be performed.
  • Trouble shooting and repair of fire alarm systems.
  • Installation and removal of alarm devices on Operations Division renovation projects as required.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on smoke detectors and related devices.
  • Provides after hours overtime work as required and participates in emergency call-back rotation if needed.
  • Attend fire alarm acceptance testing with Fire Marshal's personnel, as assigned by supervisor.
  • Responsible for fire alarm testing after repairs are made.
  • Attend fire alarm design meetings on Operations Division projects, as requested by supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable to operate motor vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of 5ys experience on installation, maintenance, trouble-shooting, programming and testing of fire alarm systems.

Safety Information

Adherence to robust safety practices and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations are responsibilities of all TTU employees.

Minimum Hire Rate

Compensation will be based on the knowledge, skills, abilities, and defined years of experience to align with the appropriate career levels for the Tradeperson specialty in the Operations Division Facilities Maintenance Career Plan.

Pay Statement
