The Graaskamp Center for Real Estate at the Wisconsin School of Business mentors and develops real estate MBA and MS students as future leaders in the commercial real estate industry.

Student Services - MBA/MS

The Graaskamp Center for Real Estate at the Wisconsin School of Business mentors and develops real estate MBA and MS students as future leaders in the commercial real estate industry. These duties fall into three main categories: recruiting and admissions; on-boarding and advising; and placement.

Recruitment and Graduate Admissions


  • Partner with the MBA/MS program offices on recruitment and admissions activities;
  • Review MBA/MS applications, interview selected candidates, and make admission recommendations to the graduate admissions team;
  • Advise on merit awards and scholarships;

Advising and Career Development


  • Work with Associate Director of MSRE to design and lead real estate student orientation experiences fall and spring
  • Partner with the WREAA, Graaskamp Center and alumni to provide student networking opportunities and attend industry conferences;
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for newly admitted graduate real estate students in PERE and AREIT tracks, supporting their transition to graduate school and helping them understand curriculum pathways, degree timelines, and specialized track options
  • Monitor graduate student enrollment each semester for students in PERE and AREIT tracks to ensure alignment with degree requirements, graduate coursework minimums, and appropriate course sequencing across specialized tracks
  • Provide individual career advising on job search strategy, cover letters, resume reviews, alumni networking, and offer negotiation for MSRE and MBA students in PERE and AREIT tracks.
  • Coordinate with Associate Director of MSRE Program and Career Development staff on career development programming and tracking internship and full-time job outcomes for graduate students.
  • Support and help administer the Graduate Student Mentoring Program in partnership with the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association (WREAA)

Administrative Management

Execute the strategic priorities and goals of the Graaskamp Center for Real Estate with the Center Director and support the broader School strategic priorities.


  • Collaborate with Graaskamp Center faculty and staff on day-to day operations;
  • Communicate and work with other WSB units/departments and staff directors of other Centers to ensure alignment on executing student-related strategic priorities;
  • Participate in regular program, department, and school meetings and other initiatives to align and coordinate activity as well as with the School's alumni and corporate relations;
  • Work with the Associate Director of the MSRE Program to maintain and update graduate student records and graduate merit awards in coordination with Graduate Program Office and Graduate Admissions team.;
  • Coordinate with the UW Foundation on donor inquiries, MOU updates, and ongoing stewardship communications;
  • Provide logistical and chaperone support for student trips, enhancing experiential learning and alumni engagement opportunities

Instructional Activity

Teach 9-12 credits of graduate or undergraduate course(s) in the Real Estate department, with responsibility for course development, curriculum assessment, and course website.


  • Design learning experiences with complementary academic and industry perspectives with Center's Director and Center-affiliated faculty/staff;
  • Help to benchmark and map curricula and learning outcomes

Real Estate Club Advisor


  • Advise the Real Estate Club (REC) student organization, which includes oversight of the largest student organization in the Business School with 375+ dues paying members (undergraduate and graduate)
  • Coordinate with faculty on REC meetings and pre-meeting speaker dinners (four to five per semester)
  • Advise on REC finances including state and federal tax documents, UW Credit Union accounts and annual budgets
  • Ensure compliance with RSO guidelines, REC Bylaws, Articles of Incorporation and 501(c)3 requirements.
  • Advise on speaker selection
  • Facilitate organizing and chaperoning REC trips each semester for 30 to 40 students
  • Facilitate and attend on campus REC Real Estate Career Fairs in the Fall and Spring

Service

  • Service to the Department, WSB, and/or the University
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Real Estate Club Faculty Advisor
  • Designs curriculum and/or techniques for instruction in a disciplinary area and suggests new ways of effective instruction in courses within that discipline
  • Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
  • Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and trains faculty and other instructional staff in use of said instructional techniques and programs
  • Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
  • Supervises the day-to-day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
  • Service to the Department, WSB, and/or the University
  • May administer budget and personnel for instructional grants and programs
  • Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the commercial real estate industry
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, display a high level of professionalism, and be committed to supporting student initiatives
  • Candidate must have excellent organizational, administrative, presentation, and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate will be familiar with the Wisconsin Real Estate program and the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association (WREAA)
Education:

Master's degree required; emphasis in real estate preferred.
