Description
The City of Chicago Law Department is seeking an attorney for the position of Chief Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Legal Information and Prosecutions (LIP) Division to represent the City's interest and supervise other attorneys in the prosecution of violations related to Chicago Municipal Code violations at the City's Department of Administrative Hearings and in the Circuit Court of Cook County. The Chief Assistant Corporation Counsel will work under the general supervision of the City Prosecutor in the Division and will have significant responsibility on various matters, including but not limited to client counseling, creating and conducting training both in-house and for Client Department personnel, providing input on proposed state and local legislation, handling litigation and administrative review matters in state court. The attorney will also represent City witnesses who are non-targets in criminal trials and assist client departments in producing records pursuant to criminal subpoenas and administrative warrants. In addition, this attorney will handle and supervise high profile cases. The attorney will be responsible for both supervising all phases of litigation on his or her own cases, including preparing pleadings and motions of varying complexity, appearing in court for case management conferences, settlement conferences and motion hearings, drafting discovery, and drafting and arguing motions for summary judgment.
