The Employment Group at Choate is a small group that works daily with the Private Equity Group, the Litigation Department and the Wealth Management Group. We provide employment counseling advice for all clients of the Firm, handle the employment aspects of private equity transactions, assist the Wealth Management Group in advising their clients on employment matters, provide executives with advice regarding their employment contracts, and handle employment-related litigation for all clients of the Firm.

Job Functions / Responsibilities
  • Provide advice on all aspects of private equity and corporate transactions, including conducting diligence and RWI calls, revising purchase agreement provisions and disclosure schedules, reviewing employment diligence, and drafting diligence summaries.
  • Provide employment counseling advice to corporate clients, domestic employer clients and executives regarding all aspects of employment relationships, such as employment agreements, restrictive covenants, wage and hour issues, harassment and discrimination issues, employee handbook and policy revisions, and terminations/reductions-in-force.
  • Handle employment litigation, particularly restrictive covenant disputes and retaliation claims.
  • Conduct workplace investigations.
Qualifications
  • Five (plus) years of experience focusing on employment counseling, private equity transactions and employment litigation.
  • Experience advising on ERISA benefit plans, executive compensation and equity incentive arrangements is a plus, but not required.
  • Excellent professional judgement.
  • Strong commitment to delivering exceptional client service.
  • Strong writing and drafting skills.
  • Must be proactive, client service-focused, and able to work independently.
Schedule
This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule. The position would at least initially be off-track.

The Firm is currently operating in a hybrid model, with the requirement that everyone should be in the office at least four days per week (pro-rated for part-time schedules). This schedule is subject to change dependent on Firm, department and client needs, and will be routinely evaluated.
Work Authorization
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by the Firm (either now or in the future.).
