THIS IS FOR A FUTURE OPENING


STGi is currently seeking a Podiatrist to provide services at our Community Based Outpatient Clinic.


JOB SUMMARY:


Podiatrist will provide foot care and podiatric services in a clinic-based setting. This will include a range of clinical tasks such as performing a physical examination, assessing the condition of patients' feet, diagnosing problems, prescribing medications, surgery as needed, and special shoe inserts and utilizing x-rays and laboratory tests. Ideal candidates should be Board Qualified/Certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (Forefoot) or the American Board of Podiatry Medicine. The candidate must demonstrate compassion for patient needs, have great attention to detail and thrive in a collaborative environment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:




  • Provides comprehensive assessment of patients to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the foot and ankle and related structures of the leg.






  • Counsels and educates patients, families, communities, staff and others regarding health care.






  • Reviews past history and requesting and performing diagnostic tests and other examinations as needed to establish diagnoses.






  • Identifies individuals who are at high risk for lower extremity amputations.






  • Performs clinical procedures such as nail avulsions , wound debridement , and minor biopsies






  • Performs routine preventive foot care including debridement of toenails and calluses






  • Recognizes rare and difficult to identify symptoms or signs and responsibility for developing a full regimen involving a knowledge of new techniques or the use of prolonged or complicated procedures or advanced delicate skills.





  • Maintains clinical and administrative records as required.



Required Skills

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:



  • Four (4) years of podiatric practice or its equivalent. One year of the required experience must have been in a multidisciplinary clinical setting. Two years of approved residency training or its creditable equivalent acceptable to the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association and, as applicable, the appropriate specialty board is acceptable in lieu of four (4) years of practice, including the above one-year requirement.





  • Possesses stature that would warrant appointment at the clinical instructor or higher level at a school or college of podiatry or other appropriate affiliated school or college.





  • Achieved a high level of professional attainment as illustrated by one or more of the following typical examples). (a) Is a recognized expert in dealing with a variety of unusually difficult cases which are referred by other facilities for resolution and recommended courses of action to provide for maximum rehabilitation. (Place the bullet point below here, as I believe it is a continuation of this bullet point).Serves as a consultant to podiatrists or other professionals in other health care facilities. (b) Has assumed responsibility for a comprehensive podiatry program at a facility for the care of diabetic, peripheral vascular disease and other systemic conditions involving the foot, and a program for the care of the geriatric patient.





  • High degree of competence and skill in responding to the needs of this patient category is demonstrated in the program development and innovative methods and techniques employed.





  • Training in podiatry and medical or other appropriate professional areas and/or research activities of considerable scope commonly from a part of the program.





  • Retain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN).





  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.



Required Experience

REQUIRED EDUCATION:




  • Degree of doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted.






  • Licensed to practice podiatry in New York. Podiatrists are required to possess full and unrestricted licensure and to maintain a current registration in their State of licensure if this is a requirement of the particular State.






  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.




WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:




  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.






  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.





  • Required to respond to any medical emergency within the clinic, where a fast walk or job may be necessary to provide assistance.
