The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking Fabrication Shop Manager to join our team as a member of our growing and innovative New Construction Mechanical division.

In the role, you will develop strategies, goals, and objectives for the fabrication shop to ensure delivery of the fabrication safely, on time and on budget with high customer satisfaction.

Additional responsibilities include:

Project Controls

  • Assumes financial responsibility for fabrication operations including accurate, timely

* and relevant reporting to stakeholders.

  • Responsible for maintaining the capital expense list for the fab shop - gathering

* requirements from shop foreman, calculating ROI, working with purchasing to acquire the asset, notifying accounting when depreciation should begin.

  • Reviews and approves billings (subcontractor, vendor, etc.)

* Supports annual budget planning process (capital expenses, personnel, operations expenses, special items).

  • Manages Prepares client and subcontractor change orders.

  • Monitors, controls, and reports on the financial performance of the fabrication shop.

  • Manage shop petty account approvals and ledger.

  • Closely track finished goods and raw goods inventory. Complete transfers to other departments or projects when required. Establish phase code structure when need to ensure costs are kept separate.

  • Creates and maintains network and hardcopy files, including the network structure, permission settings, etc.

  • Support project requires for fabrication Submittals. Communicates changes in product usage to submittals standards team, provides new cut sheets or product data sheets.

  • Provide specific job performance information to project managers when requested.

  • Performs deep dive on areas of concern, collaborates with shop foreman to understand potential overage/cost savings.

  • Processes job cost transfers when required.

Team Management

  • Coaches and mentors shop team members.

  • Read and demonstrate understanding of each craft's collective bargaining agreement(s).

  • Acts as steward of McKinstry culture; communicate and influence policies and procedures.

  • Establishes and leads associated meetings.

  • Define individual responsibilities and accountabilities. Ensure clear understanding across the shop team (both union and staff).

  • Sets annual goals and conducts performance reviews with direct reports.

  • Works hand in hand with union leadership to set goals for shop foreman.

  • Leadership of union personnel will be dotted line reporting to Shop manager and Director of shop and field ops, work together through continuous communication and develop trusting relationships.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Five (5) years of experience in project management, engineering, or construction is

* required.

  • Experience in working with union workforce preferred.

* Proficient with scheduling software: Microsoft Project, Primavera and/or Suretrak required.

  • Completed OSHA 30 class is required (can be completed after starting role)

* Experience working for a mechanical fabricator or industry manufacturer is preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

* and required.

  • Intermediate estimating skills required.

* Proficient with construction financial programs and software preferred.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of accounting and financial management preferred.

The pay range for this position is $93,600 - $147,060 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
