Description
As Manager, Epic Clinical Content, you will play a key role in the creation and governance of evidence-based tools within the Epic electronic health record that enhance patient care quality, safety, and user efficiency. In this role, your team of Clinical Content Specialists will collaborate with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to drive the development and continuous improvement of clinical content aligned with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and best practices. You will ensure that clinical content - such as order sets and care pathways, documentation templates, population health tools, alerts and other clinical decision support tools - are both meaningful and impactful. In close partnership with clinical informatics and Epic analyst teams, you will help design and optimize the EHR to support clinicians at the point of care and improve the overall patient and family experience.

Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's Degree in clinical or technology relevant area (e.g. public health, research, health care administration, bioinformatics, engineering, or related field). (Required)
- Master's Degree in clinical or technology relevant area (e.g. public health, research, health care administration, bioinformatics, engineering, or related field). (Preferred)
Minimum Work Experience
- 7 years, At least 7 years of total combined related work experience and completed higher education, including at least 1 year of licensed health care practice, clinical consulting and/or health information technology work experience. (Required)
- 1 year, At least 1 year of management or leadership experience in a related field. (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Communication: Excellent presentation and communication skills, adept at conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and translating clinical and operational requirements to technical audiences.
- Interpersonal: Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with clinical, operational, administrative, and technical stakeholders and leaders across clinical departments and business units.
- Project Management: Strong project management skills, capable of handling multiple initiatives simultaneously, including overseeing successful and fast-paced implementations of enterprise software including the electronic health record (EHR).
- Technical: Strong expertise in health information technology, including electronic health records and related systems. Familiarity with cross-venue clinical workflows and health care operations, including revenue cycle, analytics, and other business processes. Knowledge of quality improvement and process improvement methodologies and health information and health care regulations and laws. Proficiency in user-centered design principles, human factors engineering, usability testing, and software development life cycle.

Required Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) or other clinical certification and work experience (Preferred) This position requires that the appropriate Epic certification be successfully obtained and maintained for the assigned area of responsibility within 6 weeks of completing training, if not obtained prior to hire. 90 Days (Required)
- Health care informatics certification such as CPHIMS, American Medical Informatics Association AHIC, or other formal education and training in clinical informatics. (Preferred)
Functional Accountabilities EHR Implementation and Optimization
- Leads the design, build, testing, validation, and maintenance of clinical content within Epic and related systems, ensuring integrity, efficiency, and alignment with clinical best practices and organizational goals.
- Provides leadership and oversight to clinical content and informatics team members, ensuring effective workload distribution, prioritization of initiatives, and timely completion of deliverables.
- Monitors team performance and turnaround times for clinical content development, service requests, and issue resolution, ensuring alignment with clinical operations and service level expectations.
- Delegates tasks and provides expert-level guidance, offering mentorship, technical direction, and escalation support to team members and stakeholders.
- Champions user experience and change management, developing comprehensive support plans, training strategies, and documentation to ensure smooth transitions and system adoption.
- Develops and tracks metrics of system usability, end user experience, and EHR satisfaction across the organization, collaborating with peer organizations where feasible, especially in areas of industry focus such as measures of documentation burden and alert fatigue.
- Ensures compliance with change management protocols, documentation standards, and organizational policies, maintaining accuracy, transparency, and regulatory alignment.
Governance and Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborates across interdisciplinary teams and enterprise workgroups to drive clinical system optimization, enhance workflows, and support strategic and patient safety initiatives across the care continuum.
- Serves as a trusted informatics advisor to service lines, departments, and executive stakeholders, offering strategic insight into system capabilities, clinical content design, and evidence-based best practices.
- Independently manages and leads clinical informatics projects, taking ownership of deliverables, driving innovation, and collaborating with leadership to achieve strategic outcomes.
- Develops and maintains deep expertise in Epic functionality, clinical workflows, and integration points, acting as a mentor to junior specialists and a resource for clinical and operational leaders.
- Leads stakeholder engagement efforts, including regular meetings with department heads, super users, and clinical leadership to identify, document, and prioritize system and content needs.
- Conducts proactive rounding and relationship-building with clinical and operational teams to gather feedback, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure alignment between system design and frontline needs.
Maintenance, Technical Support, and Troubleshooting
- Provides advanced support for clinical content and system issues, leading root cause analysis and resolution of complex challenges that impact clinical care and documentation.
- Manages and executes Epic software updates, optimizations, and upgrades, including clinical content assessment, documentation, testing, and go-live coordination.
- Partners with vendors, Epic representatives, and internal teams to maintain system stability, advocate for enhancements, and ensure alignment with clinical and operational excellence.
- Provides on-call leadership support as scheduled, ensuring rapid response to critical incidents and continuity of clinical operations.
- Responds to and resolves support requests within defined service levels, prioritizing based on clinical impact and maintaining clear, proactive communication with stakeholders.
- Maintains current Epic certifications and participates in ongoing education, staying informed on system enhancements, new features, and best practices to support continuous improvement.
