Under the general supervision of the Patient Accounts Assistant Director, this position processes claims for billing and collection related to hospital Inpatient Medicaid services to ensure timely billing and related collection of hospital accounts.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Transmits claims electronically and hard copy.
  • Reviews, investigates and corrects rejected and denied claims.
  • Prepares adjustments for processing.
  • Updates insurance as necessary.
  • May interact with internal and external customers by telephone and other means to resolve problems related to Revenue Cycle activities.
  • Reopen and appeal claims with insurance payors
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications Required:


    1. High school diploma or equivalent.

    2. Any one or combination totaling six (6) months from the categories below:

    A. College coursework in a health-related field, business administration/management, human resource management, or closely related fields, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
    • 30 semester hours equals six (6) months

    B. Work experience in a healthcare environment working with medical claims, denials, rejections, referrals, and/ or prior authorization.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • One year of experience required with knowledge of billing and collections specific to hospital-based inpatient services.
    • Knowledge of Illinois Medicaid Billing practices
    • Must possess effective telephone and writing skills.
    • Must possess effective customer service skills.
    • Must have organizing skills: Responsible for classifying the work to be done day to day into realistic and manageable goals when situational changes demand it.
    • Prior experience with Epic
