Posting Summary |
Each of the postdoctoral programs at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine must be administered by a Director whose time commitment, qualifications and authority are adequate to meet program responsibilities. The Program Director manages the day-to-day responsibility for administration of the program, supervises all aspects of the program to ensure that its educational objectives are fulfilled, and should have a primary commitment to the program. In addition, it is the Director's responsibility to ensure that students completing the program have achieved the standards of performance established for the program and for the practice in the specialty. The responsibilities of the Director will center on postdoctoral curriculum design, clinical instruction, program management, and research.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Program Director must assume primary responsibility for the following:
- Program administration: Perform all administrative duties for the postdoctoral program.
- Student/resident selection: Coordinate the admissions process for the program and accept qualified applicants for matriculation.
- Curriculum and Education: Development and implementation of the curriculum plan to provide a diverse educational experience in biomedical, behavioral and clinical sciences. Provide clinical and didactic teaching for postdoctoral students. Periodically undertake an assessment of the curriculum and develop, as needed, modifications to the clinical and didactic components of the program, including implementation of innovative methods of learning. All aspects of the program must be consistent with accreditation standards of the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). The Director must also provide leadership in the outcomes assessment of the educational goals of the program.
- Facilities: Participate in planning for and operation of facilities used in the educational program.
- Performance: Periodic formal evaluation of program content, faculty teaching, and student/resident performance.
- Records: Maintenance of records of the number and variety of clinical experiences accomplished by each student/resident. Maintenance of records related to the educational program, including written instructional objectives and course outlines.
- Evaluation: Conducting of periodic staff meetings for the proper administration of the educational program. Evaluation of student's training and supervision in affiliated institutions, if applicable.
- Patient Care: Responsible for the quality and continuity of patient care. Assign patients for treatment to postdoctoral residents to ensure that their patient mix is satisfactory for their clinical education.
- Research: Provide oversight for students research. Manage all didactic, clinical, and research activities of the postdoctoral students; maintain an appropriate balance among didactic coursework, patient care, and research endeavors. Assist in the placement of residents in research opportunities to satisfy requirements for advanced-degree programs.
- Public Relations: Establish and maintain a vital postdoctoral program that is nationally and internationally renowned. Actively promote the postdoctoral program to recruit qualified applicants for admission through regular attendance at major dental meetings, extramural continuing dental education presentations, and scholarly publications.
- Quality Assurance: Establish and administer the quality assurance program for all clinical and laboratory procedures performed in the postdoctoral prosthodontic program.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
The incumbent must have experience in all prosthodontic disciplines (fixed, removal, maxillofacial prosthetics and implant dentistry), be a nationally recognized leader with diversified talents in the areas of teaching, patient care, research
AND have a minimum of 5 years clinical experience. Experience as a Director of a postgraduate program or teaching experience in such a program is required. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate.

Certifications/Licenses |
Qualifications include a
DDS/
DMD degree or equivalent, completion of an advanced specialty education program in prosthodontics accredited by
CODA, and Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics.
