OUC - The Reliable One, is presently seeking a Engineer Distribution (Electric/Lighting) to join the Electric & Water Distribution division. At OUC, we don't just work - we're building a bright future of innovation and transformation for future generations.

We are looking for a detail-oriented, technically skilled engineering professional to design and support roadway, parking lot, and site lighting projects in accordance with OUC policies and specifications. This role plays a critical part in enhancing public safety and visibility through effective lighting infrastructure across our service areas.

In this role, you will be responsible for preparing lighting designs, photometric analyses, cost estimates, and construction specifications using tools such as AutoCAD, AGi32, Visual, and ePETS. You will coordinate with internal departments such as Distribution and Transmission Engineering, as well as with external agencies, developers, contractors, and customers to ensure lighting projects are delivered efficiently and meet all requirements. We are seeking a strong communicator with solid organizational skills, stakeholder awareness, and a commitment to continuous learning and growth within the utility industry.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a directly related engineering discipline with a power or electronics concentration
  • Foundational exposure to AutoCAD, gained through coursework, academic projects, internships, or team-based work
  • A strong interest in learning about distribution engineering and emerging technologies like EV infrastructure, with a willingness to develop technical skills in estimating and lighting design
  • Familiarity with lighting design tools such as AGi32, Visual, or ePETS (preferred, but not required)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with customers, developers, and internal teams
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to clearly express ideas both verbally and in writing
  • Enthusiasm for learning about the utility industry, including OUC processes and project management basics
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Salary Range: $82,800 - $103,500 annually - commensurate with experience

Job Purpose:

Prepare designs, specifications, and cost estimates for roadway street lighting, parking lot lights, and property site lighting projects in accordance with OUC policy and specifications. Oversee and manage capital and maintenance projects.

Primary Functions:

  • Prepare designs, plans, cost estimates, lighting photo metric analysis and lighting security studies;
  • Coordinate with other departments, included but not limited to Distribution Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Florida Department of Transportation, government officials for both city and county governmental agencies relating to lighting projects;
  • Coordinate with developers, field personnel, contractors, customers, etc. to ensure project needs are met;
  • Apply standards, specifications, principles, laws, codes, guidelines and accepted industry practices in the design and construction of lighting facilities;
  • Attends various conferences, seminars, webinars and other advanced training to broaden knowledge of new industry standards, products, and/or regulations;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Requirements:

  • Familiarity with all, but not limited to, the following (within 1 year of hire):
  • Photo-meter;
  • Software Applications to include: AutoCAD and ePETS;
  • Related industry, organizational and departmental policies, practices, and procedures; legal guidelines, ordinances, and laws;
  • Ability to communicate with outside and inside contacts to carry out organizational programs or occasional contacts with officials at higher levels on matters requiring cooperation, explanation and persuasion, or work required enforcement of laws, ordinances, policies and procedures;
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages;
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.).

Education/ Certification/ Years of Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or directly related engineering degree, from an accredited college or university
  • No experience required
  • One (1) year of experience using AutoCAD, AGi32, Visual, or other design related software and ePETS (Preferred)
  • Trainings to be completed within two (2) years of hire:
  • Outdoor lighting designs
  • Photo-metric seminars
  • AutoCAD Lite
  • Valid Driver's License

Working Conditions:

This job may be exposed to occasional fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Physical Requirements:

This job involves constant writing, and may involve constant typing and detailed inspection (reading/English). This job may involve very frequent sitting and occasional speaking & hearing. This job requires frequently driving a company vehicle.
