The Assistant Research Professor will also document this work and author results for publication. The successful candidate willjoin the research effort of the Electronic Structure Group (https://sites.psu.edu/arpes) lead by Prof. Heike Pfau and is expected to actively collaborate with other research groups at Penn State. The Electronic Structure Group focuses on AREPS in quantum materials using in-situ tuning parameters such as uniaxial and biaxial strain, magnetic field, or gating. We employ an in-house, custom laser-based AREPS system, which is designed and optimized around tunable sample environments. In addition, we use synchrotron facilities for complementary measurements, particularly those that provide the infrastructure for sample tuning. We are interested in a broad range of quantum materials and quantum phenomena. We have a strong expertise in materials with strong electronic correlations studying phenomena such as unconventional superconductivity, nematicity, heavy fermion behavior, Mott and Hund's metal physics. Other areas of interest are topological phase transitions, quantum phase transitions and spectroscopy on devices. The ideal candidate should have a background in photoemission spectroscopy and instrumentation skills. Requirements includeaPh.D. in Physics or a closely related field. Applicants should have at least two years of postdoctoral research experience. Applicants should reach out to Heike Pfau (heike.pfau@psu.edu) directly prior to applying to this advertisement to discuss details of the position and of the research topics. This is a non-tenure-line position. Review of applications will beginimmediatelyand continue until a suitable candidate is found. BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.BENEFITS Penn State provides a competitive benefits package for full-time employees designed to support both personal and professional wellbeing.
