Summary:

The Executive Director, Scientific Communications will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive scientific communication strategy to position Pacira BioSciences as a leader in pain and pain adjacencies. Reporting into the Clinical Affairs team, this role will lead a team focused on strategic planning, content creation, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration to effectively gather, synthesize, and communicate scientific insights.

Key responsibilities include crafting strategic plans to disseminate scientific intelligence across internal teams, medical and scientific experts, and clinical investigators, as well as overseeing the development of high-quality scientific publications. The Executive Director will ensure all communications are accurate, rigorous, and aligned with Pacira's mission to inform and advance the medical and scientific community.


Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by an individual assigned to this job. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and execute an integrated scientific strategy that synthesizes insights from scientific communications and clinical research to inform both internal and external stakeholders. This strategy will support clinical development efforts and reinforce Pacira's leadership in pain and adjacent therapeutic areas by highlighting the medical, economic, and patient-centered value of the company's portfolio. Lead the development and implementation of the scientific communication strategy, including the Scientific Platform and associated content.
  • Ensure alignment and training across key internal teams, including Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations, and Health Economics and Outcomes Research, as well as with commercial partners and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the evidence generation and publication strategy and planning process in alignment with Asset Development and Lifecycle Management goals across the Pacira portfolio.
  • Oversee Clinical Affairs communication initiatives for internal and external stakeholders, including clinical trial branding, clinical website, and omni-channel activities.
  • Support Clinical Operations by contributing to the design and execution of effective patient and site recruitment strategies. Identify and engage with external thought leaders and develop a comprehensive strategy and plan for scientific steering committees which guide Clinical Affairs activities.
  • Develop and execute a congress planning and intelligence strategy to support Clinical Development objectives Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Clinical Affairs team, enhancing team processes and performance.
  • Foster a collaborative environment and culture which emphasizes teamwork, cooperation, personal accountability, and a commitment to quality.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Interaction:

The incumbent collaborates closely with internal teams, consultants, and vendors.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., MD, PhD, PharmD) with a minimum of 10 years of scientific communications experience in bioscience industry or medical communication agency, or Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in biological sciences with a minimum of 15 years of leadership experience in healthcare/pharmaceutical communications required.
  • Extensive experience working closely with thought leaders, preferably in areas related to osteoarthritis, postsurgical pain, and/or chronic pain management.
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills and demonstrated ability to critically analyze scientific literature to develop materials for communication.
  • Hands-on experience with the development and review of medical content
  • The ability to translate complex medical information into clear and concise messages.
  • Excellent teamwork and interaction skills to lead cross functional teams and interface effectively with internal and external partners including vendors.
  • Exceptional organizational/project management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables at once with a sense of ownership to drive to completion.
  • Strong initiative, critical thinking, and problem-solving ability

Pay Transparency

The base pay range for this role is $229,000 annually to $301,000 annually.
The range is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. The range considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: geographic markets, business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience, training, licensure, and certifications.
