Job Summary

The Human Resource Generalist will run and oversee the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including hiring, onboarding and offboarding of employees, employee support and development, policy updates and distribution, HR communication, performance management, compensation analysis, supervisor training, facilitating employees' leave and accommodation requests, and enforcing company policies and practices.

As with any position, additional expectations exist. Some of these include, but are not limited to, adhering to normal working hours, meeting deadlines, following company policies as outlined by the Employee Handbook, communicating regularly with assigned supervisor(s), staying focused on the assigned tasks, and completing other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, communications, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development
  • Facilitates the corporate training initiatives for management. Writing and presenting presentations
  • Supports onboarding and offboarding processes. Handles Orientation, I-9s, employee set up, and employee support
  • Supports internal investigations, employee disciplinary actions, counselling, and terminations. Ensures adequate documentation is collected, reviewed, and filed
  • Facilitates leave of absences, calculates benefit premiums, ensures compliance, and supports employees
  • Supports company compliance reporting - OSHA, AAP, EEO-1, Vets 4212, ERISA, SCA, ACA, etc
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies, handbook, and practices to maintain compliance
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, and employee data. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed
  • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
  • Functions as HRIS SME performing continuous training to be aware of changes and updates to the HR system and inform the HR team accordingly
  • Acts as on-site HR support for Chesapeake, VA office regarding onboarding, offboarding, documenting and conducting confidential conversations, advising on-site staff regarding policies and processes, and other HR duties as needed or assigned
  • If applicable: If you are or have been recently employed by the U.S. government, a post-employment ethics letter will be required if employment with VSolvit is offered

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • High School Diploma; and two (2) years' work experience in Human Resources role
  • 3+ years' experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Suite applications
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related state and federal laws and regulations
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skill se

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or Human Resources
  • Professional HR certification
  • 1+ years' experience training employees and managers
  • Experience overseeing and managing a HRIS implementation
  • Experience working with the military and/or government
