DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This one-year trainee program focuses on responsibilities related to traffic control. Participants will continuously assess traffic routes during both day and night to pinpoint safety issues, engage in traffic studies, conduct traffic counts, review signage, evaluate pavement markings, process Highway Occupancy Permit (HOP) applications, and analyze traffic signals. The role also involves investigating complaints concerning signage, pavement markings, and delineation, which includes drafting correspondence, suggesting corrective measures, and creating work orders as necessary. Trainees will prepare plans for traffic signals, electronically operated devices, highway lighting, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for district projects using Computer Aided Drafting (CADD) tools. Additionally, they will generate spreadsheets, graphs, technical reports, Geographic Information System (GIS) maps, and other electronic documentation.
In this program, participants will assist in executing engineering and traffic-related designs and studies in compliance with departmental policies and relevant state and federal regulations. They will also analyze and evaluate crash data and identify crash cluster locations, recommending significant safety improvements to their supervisors for consideration. Furthermore, trainees will assess sight distance and guide rail requests, proposing necessary solutions. The program includes developing and delivering crash analysis and highway safety training for district, county, and consultant personnel, as well as evaluating highway occupancy permits concerning sight distance and guide rail issues, providing recommendations for effective resolutions. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in District 10.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
