THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is actively seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Traffic Control Technician. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for executing technical tasks related to the design and implementation of solutions aimed at addressing various traffic control challenges. These challenges may include establishing speed restrictions, identifying appropriate passing zones, conducting thorough investigations of accidents, and evaluating traffic patterns to enhance overall road safety and efficiency. Your expertise will be crucial in analyzing data, developing strategic recommendations, and collaborating with other professionals to ensure that traffic management systems are effective and responsive to the needs of the community. This role requires a keen understanding of traffic engineering principles and the ability to apply them in real-world scenarios to improve transportation infrastructure.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in District 10.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience performing transportation engineering technical assignments, such as traffic control data collection, highway sign surveys, traffic signal inspection, materials sampling, testing, or inspection, construction inspection, bridge inspection, survey work, utility relocation, roadway programs management, or roadway materials control; and graduation from high school; or
  • One year of experience performing transportation engineering technical assignments, such as traffic control data collection, highway sign surveys, traffic signal inspection, materials sampling, testing, or inspection, construction inspection, bridge inspection, survey work, utility relocation, roadway programs management, or roadway materials control; and an Associate's Degree in the field of mathematics, statistics, or a civil engineering technology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:
