POSITION SUMMARY: This individual in this position is responsible for compiling and analyzing financial information for the section of General Internal Medicine. Develops integrated revenue/expense analyses, creates and analyzes monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and ensures financial information has been recorded accurately. Performs financial forecasting and reconciliation of internal accounts. Assists in preparation of monthly financial statements. Position: Financial Analyst I Department: General Internal Medicine Schedule: Full Time ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
- Monthly review and reconciliation of expense reports
- Monthly review of labor distribution salary reports
- Submit payment requests for faculty outside of scheduled salary
- Prepare invoices for section's state contracts (i.e. Mass Dept. of Public Health) and send to BMC Accounting
- Track credits and debits for >150 internal faculty accounts (i.e. contract, start-up, research, discretionary, educational, etc.). Update on a regular basis and share account balances with owners quarterly
- Complete journal entries to move charges to correct accounts and prevent negative balances, as needed
- Submit Internal Service Requests for purchases through Boston University (i.e. software, BU computers, data center
- Prepare quarterly section budget review to highlight areas of concern
- Review monthly financial statement sent from the Department's finance team, particularly the section's Fund Balance report to ensure internal tracking is consistent with the department's balances
- Work with admin team to ensure that reimbursements and expenses that are being sent to A/P, get tracked
- Work with Hospital Medicine Unit to submit shift bonuses for nocturnists and moonlighters
- Send moonlighting payments to the department's finance team to pay external moonlighters
- Submit payments for internal moonlighters via BU's payroll system
- Provider quarterly section budget reviews for leadership team
- Review billing and coding data to look out for outliers in billing practices (i.e. over coding vs. under coding)
- Other financial projects as needed

- Ability to work independently and excel in a complex, demanding environment required with time-sensitive deadlines.
- Comprehensive understanding of financial statement preparation, and the ability to research and interpret data, and an understanding of financial and operational systems. Broad knowledge of health care accounting and systems is a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with physicians, management, staff, and other internal/external customers.
- Experience in translating and communicating key analyses and assumptions in concise fashion to Senior Management for decision making purposes.
- Excellent computer skills and experience on both a General Ledger System as well as comparable spreadsheet and word processing software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and other analytical tools) and ability to train others.
- Team player with the willingness and desire to learn and grow within the organization.
