What this job involves - The Director of Engineering will be a visionary leader responsible for spearheading the engineering department, ensuring the successful achievement of the company's engineering objectives. This critical role involves overseeing and managing a high-performing facilities engineering team comprised of mechanical, electrical, and building controls engineers. The Director will play a pivotal role in ensuring all engineering projects are completed on time and within budget , while also contributing significantly to facilities operations, Root Cause Analyses (RCAs), facilities reliability engineering, and facilities drawing review. This position requires a strong engineering background, particularly in facilities and project engineering, with a proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse engineering team. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaborative innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Team Management:

    • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of electrical, mechanical, controls, and commissioning engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.

    • Set clear team goals and targets, aligning them with overall account and organizational objectives.

    • Manage team resources, determine priorities, delegate and assign work effectively, and ensure timely delivery of all deliverables.

    • Identify and implement professional development pathways for the engineering team, enhancing their skills and aligning with JLL's and client's strategic goals.

    • Actively seek and implement improvement opportunities within engineering processes and workflows.

    • Prepare and present insightful KPI reports to stakeholders, driving effective solutions and demonstrating continuous improvement.

  • Engineering Design & Project Oversight:

    • Oversee the management and execution of comprehensive engineering design reviews for MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) projects across the client's portfolio, including lab and metering equipment, digital smart building infrastructure, BMS network topology and architecture, controls strategy and logic, and adherence to client standards and best practices.

    • Conduct thorough design reviews for infrastructure and tenant improvement projects, ensuring strict compliance with relevant standards, design guidelines, best practices, and stakeholder expectations.

    • Perform in-depth technical reviews of control sequences of operation, program logic, and associated functional performance test plans.

    • Conduct on-site field inspections throughout project implementation to verify compliance with scope and best practices, proactively identifying implementation risks and deviations from approved designs.

    • Coordinate seamlessly with project teams to ensure acceptable resolution plans for identified deficiencies and timely completion of these resolutions within project design and implementation schedules.

    • Support capital planning initiatives, representing the engineering team to senior leadership.

  • Facilities Reliability & Optimization:

    • Evaluate operating trends, alarms, and other critical data from the Building Management System (BMS) to validate that control systems performance is consistent with design intent.

    • Provide expert subject matter expertise within the team and to internal stakeholders, ensuring holistic and robust analysis with high quality and clear value to the client and other stakeholders.

    • Support the electrical, mechanical, and BMS engineering teams with specific technical guidance as appropriate.

    • Ensure internal records and databases are meticulously verified through ongoing quality assurance and quality control processes.

  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:

    • Provide essential cross-functional team support.

    • Represent the client on project teams, ensuring stakeholder requirements are appropriately addressed and all issues are effectively resolved.

    • Coordinate engineering team resources to meet expectations for various programs and services for stakeholders of the Engineering department.

    • Collaborate effectively across lab services and the broader JLL teams to achieve shared objectives.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or an engineering-related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in a variety of engineering disciplines.
  • Extensive experience with Facilities HVAC and building automation & control systems.
  • Proven track record of leading engineering teams, including determining priorities, delegating and assigning work, and managing resources and deliverable deadlines.
  • Strong experience in the design, commissioning, and operational support of HVAC systems.
  • Expertise in Building Management Systems (BMS), including logic/programming, points configuration, alarming, and trending.
  • Industry certification such as P.E. (Professional Engineer) or PMP (Project Management Professional) is highly desirable.

Estimated total compensation for this position:

143,600.00 - 200,000.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
