POSITION SPECIFICS

Student Orientation and Transition Programs is seeking a detail-oriented, driven, student-centered professional to fill the Welcome Programs Coordinator role at Penn State University Park. The role is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of large-scale welcome initiatives at Penn State University Park, including summer, fall, and spring Welcome events. This role supports New Student Orientation (NSO), which serves over 9,400 new students annually, and contributes to broader campus and community programming efforts.

This position is located at the University Park campus. This position requires evening and weekend work, especially in the summer months. An opportunity for flexible work arrangements, including remote work once or twice per week, is a possibility.

Reporting to both Student Affairs and Undergraduate Education, Student Orientation and Transition Programs, through collaborative partnerships, is responsible for providing a comprehensive learning experience for all Penn State undergraduate students that supports a successful academic,social,and personal transition to the University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome Program Implementation: Lead the planning and execution of major welcome events such as Quad Fest, HUB Takeovers, Campus Spotlight Stations, Rock the Ice. Collaborate with campus partners on scheduling, marketing, and assessment of welcome activities. Serve on the campus-wide Welcome Week Planning Committee.
  • New Student Orientation Support: Coordinate specific components of NSO, including check-in processes. Address and resolve student and family concerns during orientation.
  • Change-of-Campus Programming: Assist in planning and executing programs for change-of-campus students, including Link UP, Link Penn State, and other targeted orientation events.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of SOTP.

This position is filled at the Professional level.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in event planning and program coordination
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Basic knowledge of student development theory or experience working with college student populations
  • Proficiency in standard office software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, email, calendars)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field
  • Experience coordinating orientation, welcome week, or transition programs in a higher education setting
  • Familiarity with program assessment and evaluation methods
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data to inform program improvements
  • Strong customer service orientation and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Comfort with public speaking and delivering presentations to large groups

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education. Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $46,400.00 - $67,300.00.
