Summary:

Reporting to the Director, AI Strategy and Innovation, and the Vice President/Chief Medical Information Officer, promotes and supports needed testing, validation, monitoring, and modifications of clinical and non-clinical machine learning models that support the mission of improving health outcomes and quality of care, and streamlining healthcare operations at Brown University Health. The Data Scientist will work in close collaboration with operational domain experts, data stewards, and software vendor data engineers and developers to ensure the reliability, accuracy, safety, and usability of non-research deployed machine learning models deployed at Brown University Health. The Data Scientist will also contribute to the dissemination of the findings that may include both internal presentations and externally facing publications, presentations, and reports.

Responsibilities:

Works with other healthcare systems, public and private agencies, and governmental groups to integrate Brown University Health's AI initiatives with those having similar missions.

* Tests, validates, monitors, and modifies machine learning models using various data sources and methods consistent with healthcare industry best practices.

* Collaborates with domain experts, data stewards, data engineers, and software developers to understand the data, the problems, and operational dependencies, impacting model performance.

* Imports data sets into the appropriate data science tool, e.g. R or Python, for in-depth analysis and data insights

* Applies best practices and standards for data quality, data governance, and data security.

* In collaboration with model owners, modifies clinical and/or non-clinical variables, weightings, and thresholds, employing healthcare industry standard best practices.

* Documents model data, methods, and findings in a clear and reproducible manner.

* Communicates results and implications of model performance to various stakeholders, including, clinicians, operational leaders, and policymakers.

* Stays updated on the latest developments and trends in machine learning, health data, and health informatics.

* Serves as an AI champion, promoting appropriate and responsible adoption of AI and associated autonomous clinical and non-clinical solutions at Brown University Health.

* Provides input to operational and clinical leaders in the selection, implementation, and monitoring of AI related programs across the enterprise

* Thinks at a systems level, looking for AI synergies across multiple levels of the organization

* Demonstrates outstanding organizational, analytical, and quality improvement management skills

* Exhibits excellent interpersonal and communications skills with a strong, inclusive management style.

* Utilizes resources prudently, demonstrating strong fiscal responsibility

* Demonstrates a clear track record of automation performance improvement across multiple departments, year-over-year.

    QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION:

    Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, statistics, mathematics, engineering or related field

    QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE:

    * Minimum three years experience in developing, testing, and deploying machine learning models in a professional setting, preferably in a complex academic healthcare setting comparable to Brown University Health

    * Proficiency in Python, R, or other programming languages for data analysis and machine learning insights.

    * Prior experience with Epic machine learning models desirable

    * Experience with various machine learning frameworks, tools, and libraries, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, Keras, etc.

    * Experience with various data sources, formats, and platforms, such as SQL, NoSQL, CSV, JSON, XML, etc.

    * Experience with various data acquisition, visualization and reporting tools including but not limited to Power BI; Epic reporting framework experience with Clarity and Caboodle desirable

    * Knowledge of health data standards, terminologies, and ontologies, such as HL7, FHIR, SNOMED, LOINC, etc.

    * Knowledge of health informatics principles, methods, and applications, such as clinical decision support, natural language processing, computer vision, etc.

    * Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills.

    * Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

    * Ability to learn new skills and adapt to changing needs.
