MH Employee and Occupational Health Department Assistant

Summary:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of clerical, secretarial, and receptionist duties in support of department needs.

Responsibilities:

Complies with hospital and department policies and procedures, including protecting the confidentiality of patient information.

Performs secretarial/receptionist duties including typing, word processing, filing, answering phones, taking messages, and conveying information and messages.

Provides general office support, including ordering supplies, photocopying materials for distribution, faxes, maintains adequate supply of forms, etc.

Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures and objectives.

Performs other related duties as required.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

High-end capabilities in Microsoft Office required and EMR experience preferred. Proficiency in English grammar with the ability to edit written materials; understanding of medical terminology preferred. A high level of organizational skills to maintain departmental files, records and statistical data. The ability to perform analysis of data to maintain department statistics as required by Brown University Health, government and accrediting agencies. Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of personnel both within and outside of the organization. The ability to operate a variety of office equipment is required.

EXPERIENCE:

At least two years progressively more responsible related clerical experience; experience related to worker's compensation claim handling support preferred. Experience should demonstrate effective oral and written communication and organizational skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Normal office environment.

Requires standing, bending, and sitting.

Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use computer keyboard and other common office equipment.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Functions independently within the scope of department policies and practices. Refers complex issues to management for clarification as required.
