Summary:
Supervise, coordinate, and lead the work of the Registration Department staff through scheduling, monitoring and assisting to ensure accurate and timely patient registration. Prepares monthly statistical reporting related to Registration, including staff productivity reports, and coordinates various projects as needed. Act as a liaison to Nurse Management with the bed management function.

Responsibilities:

Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.

Schedules assigned staff to provide adequate coverage of department

Reassigns personnel daily as needed

- Ensures coverage for special needs, absences and other unexpected occurrences

Coordinates the work week schedule to include weekends and holidays

Organizes, coordinates and leads the day to day functions of the patient registration department.

Instructs staff in proper work methods and department policies and procedures.

Monitors and reports time worked by Registration Staff to assure accurate payroll preparation.

Ensures Registration Staff provide a courteous, informed and supportive introduction to Newport Hospital.

Monitors performance of Registration Staff

Identifies needs and assists staff in fulfilling responsibilities

Reinforces desired performance

Provides concurrent and periodic performance evaluations/competency assessment

Collaborates with Manager regarding disciplinary actions necessary to correct undesired performance

Participates in interviewing and selection of new staff

Develops, coordinates and provides department orientation to new staff

Collaborates with Director and staff in the development and communication of performance standards and goals.

Organizes and coordinates activities of Registration Staff to ensure:

Data is accurately collected

Data is processed and disseminated to appropriate areas in a timely manner

Staff use appropriate hospital service and site codes are used for the routing of results to physician groups

Management of the enrollment of patients into the state electronic health exchange network

Management of the insurance verification application

Management of the Quality Assurance application

Patient documentation packets are distributed to the clinical units during registration.

Collaborates with Nurse Managers to provide optimum utilization of available hospital beds.

Assists director with updates to department policies and procedures

Implements departmental policy and procedural changes to improve the quality of work and increase productivity.

Third Party Payer Changes

Continuously educates his/herself of changes affecting the department

Ensures all staff are educated about the change

Schedules and conducts department staff meetings

 Preforms other related duties as directed.

Qualifications:

Duties require 3 - 4 years patient registration experience to become thoroughly familiar with hospital and department policies and procedures and to gain supervisory skills, as well as a well-rounded knowledge of office clerical procedures and fundamental bookkeeping procedures usually attained by successful completion of a high school business education program.

Demonstrated leadership abilities.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to sit and walk for 3-7 hours a day and stand for 1-3 hours a day.

Must be able to lift 10-35 lbs with good body mechanics as well as twist infrequently.

Must be able to perform work with moderate deviation of wrist position and hand/wrist repetitions.

Must have gross manual dexterity with infrequent fine motor dexterity.

Must be able to use right/left/either/both hand(s) at all times on the job.

Far vision must be accurate and moderate depth perception is required.

Must be able to hear a whisper at 8 ft.
