Position Summary

Performs complex account reconciliations and associated financial analysis, technical accounting research to determine proper implementation of complex accounting standards (GASB), and prepares various auditing schedules. Prepares, analyzes, and distributes monthly and ad hoc financial reports to internal and external stakeholders. Ensures that all accounting requirements for CPS Energy's investment, hedging, and debt programs are met. Responsibilities may include working in departments such as FP&A, Debt Management, Cash and Liquidity Management, or Energy Markets Hedging and Credit Oversight.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Core responsibilities focus on operational/tactical aspects of the organization and limited, if any, strategic focus.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and distributes the annual audited financial statements and other external reports.
  • Performs multiple financial functions to ensure proper recording of financial data and presentation of CPS Energy's financial results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepares and analyzes accounting schedules and supporting documents for annual external audit.
  • Prepares journal entries and updates department dashboards and presentations, including calculating ratios and graphing trends.
  • Monitors benchmarks and analyzes variances to those benchmarks.
  • Performs complex account reconciliations and variance analysis to ensure accuracy of data and internal controls.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and distributes various monthly financial management reports, board schedules and presentations.
  • Evaluates and recommends accounting policies and procedures that comply with accounting and financial regulatory bodies.
  • Performs technical accounting research and writes position papers to ensure documentation of implemented policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and updates desktop procedures, including flow charting and similar processes, while assessing current processes and recommending process improvements.
  • Communicates financial information and responds to inquiries, both in writing and verbally, to all levels and business areas of CPS Energy and external parties.
  • Supports process improvement initiatives that result in higher levels of efficiencies, accuracy and analytics for the organization.
  • Provides a high degree of service to CPS Energy internal customers by responding to financial and operating questions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Accountant/analyst experience in a field supporting and providing technical and analytical solutions.
Knowledge of accounting/analyst experience in a field supporting and providing financial and operational solutions.
Relative experiences in financial/project management for Operational Units.
Understands processes and procedures in specialized field.
Initiative to work independently or as a member of a team, coordinating with others to achieve desired results.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills for interaction with all levels of personnel.
Ability to meet goals and objectives with minimal direct supervision.
Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to make recommendations and independent decisions.
High level of accuracy of work and attention to detail.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to work in a team environment, coordinating with other areas to achieve goals and objectives.
Ability to work in a variety of locations such as the field, construction centers and the main office.
Ability to identify alternative solutions for development of decision-making proposals, which support organizational goals/objectives and budget constraints
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or CPA.
  • Extensive experience as an accountant/analyst with financial and operational analytical support.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficient in SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Hyperion, or Workiva.
  • Relative experience in supporting the electric or gas utility industries.

Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with concentration in Finance, Accounting, Auditing or related field from an accredited university.
Required Certifications
Working Environment
Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business related events.
Physical Demands
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
