The University of Minnesota Office for Equity & Diversity (OED) is seeking an experienced and dedicated professional to serve as the resident Master of Social Work (MSW) Practicum Supervisor. In this role, the practicum supervisor will provide essential mentorship and oversight to MSW students during their field placements in the OED Education Program (OEDED) and the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence (MCAE).
The MSW Practicum Supervisor will work with the OED site supervisors from OEDED and MCAE to foster a supportive learning environment that aligns with the MSW program's educational objectives and the practicum site mission and values, supports student professional development, and upholds the values and ethics of the social work profession. Work hours associated with the position are 9:00am-4:30pm and there is a cap of 14 hours per week maximum.

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with OEDED and MCAE site supervisors to provide regular supervision, guidance, and constructive feedback to MSW student interns
  • Support students in navigating the integration of social work approaches and values within the programming of OEDED and MCAE
  • Foster opportunities for MSW student interns to explore and develop a professional identity as a social worker
  • Ensure that practicum experiences meet the educational goals and competencies outlined by the MSW program
  • Facilitate opportunities for student interns to engage in meaningful, developmentally appropriate tasks within the work of MCAE and OEDED
  • Lead biweekly meetings practicum instructor meetings with MSW student interns
  • Collaborate in discussing student intern progress, addressing challenges, and setting goals
  • Maintain consistent, open lines of communication with the OEDED and MCAE site supervisors, OED and MSW program leadership, and student interns
  • Proactively address concerns and share updates on student development and field placement dynamics
  • Complete formal student evaluations as required by the MSW programs
  • Provide ongoing, formative feedback to encourage growth and skill acquisition of student interns
  • Identify and facilitate opportunities for student learning, training, and reflection
  • Serve as a role model for ethical and culturally competent social work practice
  • Work collaboratively with site supervisors and OED partners to create a cohesive and supportive field education environment
  • Demonstrate and promote adherence to the NASW Code of Ethics and University policies
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • MSW from an accredited program
  • Licensure in social work (as required by state law and agency setting)
  • Demonstrated experience in fostering effective collaborations and partnerships
  • Commitment to mentorship, student learning, and social work education
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of post-MSW professional experience preferred
  • Prior work experience with multiple constituents in a higher education institution, including students, staff, faculty, alumni, and external community members
  • Experience or proficiency with MSW program evaluation and assessment systems

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $50.00 per hour, depending on education/qualifications/experience.
