BASIC PURPOSE The Lead Lifeguard is responsible for overseeing the safety of members, swimmers, aquatic program participants and staff, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed. The Lead Lifeguard provides direction, training, and support to a team of lifeguards, responds to emergencies, maintains the facility to established standards, and assists with administrative duties. When needed the Lead Lifeguard provides hands-on lifeguarding, instructional swim lessons, and general maintenance of the aquatics area. This position supports the Aquatics Manager with scheduling interviews, hiring and selection of Aquatics staff, budget control, and developing community interest programs that drive profitability. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and lead daily operations of the Aquatics staff.
- Support the team of Lifeguards by being on deck and providing hands-on lifeguarding, swim instruction, and assisting other aquatic instructional programs as needed.
- Maintain a safe working environment and report all safety issues to the Aquatics Manager, Facilities Manager, and Center Director.
- Sets the example and is the role model for the Lifeguard team in all aspects of customer service, parent communication, member relations, urgency of responding to situations, following protocols, preparedness, safety awareness, and standards of cleanliness.
- Actively trains new lifeguards.
- In partnership with the Aquatics Manager, develop and implement a lifeguard training program and assist Aquatics Manager to ensure all certifications are up to date.
- Provide oversight to the day-to-day operations of the Aquatic programs to include special events and swim lessons.
- May assist with scheduling lifeguards to ensure adequate coverage.
- Utilize Lifeguard training, CPR, First Aid when needed.
- Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and provide first aid, rescue breathing, and CPR as needed.
- Have constant observation of assigned areas and adopt a quick and effective course of action to any signs of danger.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents, and all other relevant information and completed timely according to TSA policies.
- Ensure liability injuries are reported according to policy and procedure.
- Supervise and monitor staff cleaning and maintenance of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, and aquatic storage areas. Validate that cleanliness meets or exceeds expectations.
- Conduct chemical analysis, assist with pool maintenance and report any unsafe conditions to the Aquatics Manager, Facilities Manager, and Center Director.
- Model the behaviors of exemplary customer service and professionalism to members, clients, and the Kroc Center staff.
- Must wear standard apparel as designated by the Aquatics Manager, exhibiting a professional appearance while on duty.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED Equivalency.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Possess at least 2 years of Lifeguard experience.
- One-year prior experience as a head Lifeguard preferred.
- Lifeguard training must include Standard First Aid. American Red Cross certifications are required before the start of employment.
- Current certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR. First Aid, and AED required.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or ability to obtain within six months.
- Must have effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and occasional split shifts.
- Able to work independently and within a team
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check. E. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimescontinuous basis.
- Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
- Ability to reach overhead.
- Ability to operate telephone.
- Ability to lift to 50-70 lbs. for positions that require lifting.
- Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
