Our Values: Joy, Service, Team Player, Excellence, Christ-likeness Job Summary Under the direction of the Aquatics Manager, the Pool Lead will assist with implementation of programs, special events, swim lessons and supervision of staff for all aquatic related activities, as well as providing training to advance the skills of Kroc Center employees. The position will monitor activities, observe and provide assistance to swimmers, prevent accidents, protect life, enforce regulations, control access to pools, and perform other maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned. Attendance at monthly in-service trainings is required, whether assisting in the running of or in regular attendance.

- Assist with daily operations of the aquatic center
- Provide oversight to the day-to-day operations of the aquatics programs, services, facilities and special events.
- Perform water chemical tests as determined by the Operating Procedures.
- Establish and maintain guild lines related to the aquatic facilities.
- Must follow the employee handbook and wear standard apparel, exhibiting a professional appearance at all times while on duty.
- Analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.
- Be rescue ready for any emergency situation; providing care up to the standard of your certification.
- Assist the Aquatics Manager with administrative duties including prepare and reviewing written information relating to:
- Planning and running in-services
- Class registrations
- Lessons
- Incidents/accidents
- Volunteer needs
- Calendar of events.
- Maintain and review records and reports as assigned.
- Establish and maintain an equipment checkout program to include checks before and after use for defects and repair or discard defective equipment in accordance with procedures.
- Shift Lead
- Maintain training and certification records for all Aquatic Staff. Keep staff informed when rec-certification will be necessary.
- Acts as Leader for aquatic support staff to include instructors and lifeguards.
- Update and maintain aquatic staff records and facility bulletin boards, which reflect appropriate current information.
- Inspect and supervise staff cleaning and maintenance of swimming pool areas, guard restroom trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned, as well as performing cleaning as needed.
- Assist in the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures for the aquatic center
- Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors and employees.
- Maintain order in swimming areas.
- Assist the Aquatics Manager to establish a written Rapid Response Action Plan for all types of emergencies in the aquatics area
- Conduct regular drills.
- Assist with the development and implementation of swim lessons, special events and in-service trainings
- Assist in the development, training, and teaching American Red Cross swim lessons.
- Assist in training and instruction of Kroc Center staff in all levels of safety certifications.
- Develop and implement a Lifeguard Instructor program and assist in training and instruction of recommended Kroc Center aquatic staff for Instructor-level Certifications. This training will lend to, but not be limited to, their ability to train and teach other Kroc Center staff.
- Perform lifeguarding and assisting swimming instructors in teaching swimming lessons and other aquatic instructional programs may be necessary.
- Insure that the Kroc Mission, Vision and values are represented and infused in all programs, training customer relations and level of operations.
- Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers, clients and members are given prompt and courteous service.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers and customers in person and over the phone.
- Perform set up and breakdown of facility equipment as needed.
- Create and maintain an inviting environment for the community at large.
- Update job knowledge to remain current with Aquatic and Recreation trends, techniques, equipment and government regulations.
- Pool Lead Expectations
- Assistant in developing and implementing safety and risk management policies and procedures for the aquatics center and aquatic programs.
- Meet regularly with the Aquatics Manager and Program Director to coordinate operational issues with sound fiscal and budgetary requirements.
- Work in a cooperative manner with the other on-site directors of the RJKCCC program, discussing any problems that may be occurring within the facilities in which their programs operate.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings and leadership team meetings when required.
- Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
- Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Current First Aid, CPR and AED required.
- Must have American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, AED and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification.
- Must be able to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts.
- Experience working with the public and relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, members and customers. Possess the ability to be self-motivated, work independently and in a team environment.
- One year prior experience as a head lifeguard highly desirable.
- Must have at least two years of experience as a lifeguard.
- Must have at least one year experience teaching swimming lessons.
- American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification highly desirable.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard and/or First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor are highly desirable.
