CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION

Bureau of Warehouse Operations

Number of Positions: 2

(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Annual Salary: $52.50/HOUR

These positions are open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with Laborers Union, Local 1092- BARGAINING UNIT 53. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

The Chicago Department of Aviation is seeking two Chief Storekeepers to direct and coordinate storekeeping and inventory control activities with large and varied stock, performing related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Supervise staff engaged in the receipt, storage, inventorying, and issuing of supplies
* Plan and oversee physical inventories
* Perform data entry into an inventory software program, to maintain and adjust inventory
* Monitor the usage rate of supplies to identify opportunities to control expenditures.
* Approves requisitions to order supplies, materials, and equipment
* Train subordinate personnel in inventory control and storekeeping procedures
* Coordinate the delivery of supplies to all end users
* Performs other related duties

Additional duties may be required for this position.

Location: 11601 West Touhy

Days: Monday through Friday

Hours: 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

Qualifications

* Four (4) years of inventory control or storekeeping experience, OR

* Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree, PLUS two (2) years of inventory control or storekeeping experience, OR

* Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or higher, PLUS one (1) year of inventory control or storekeeping experience

NOTE:

WORKING CONDITIONS

* General warehouse or storeroom environment

* Exposure to fumes, noise, and dust

* Exposure to abnormal temperatures

EQUIPMENT

* Standard office equipment (e.g., telephone, printer, photocopier, fax machine, calculator)

* Computers and peripheral equipment (e.g., personal computer, computer terminals, hand-held computer)

* Communication equipment (e.g., two-way radio, pager system)

* Personal protective equipment (e.g., shoes, gloves, vest)

* Manual moving equipment (e.g., hand trucks, dollies)

* Powered moving equipment (e.g., electric or motorized lifts and jacks)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

* Some lifting (up to 25 pounds) is required

* Ability to stand and walk for extended or continuous periods of time

* Ability to quickly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with one's body, arms, and/or legs

* Ability to move one's hands and arms to grasp or manipulate objects

* Ability to climb staircases, ladders, and/or step stools
