What's the role?
Northwestern Mutual is seeking an experienced Systems Software Engineer who is passionate about continuous learning and furthering their expertise in our cloud-based technology. In this role, you will also have the opportunity to learn and work with on-prem database technologies and automation practices based on additional design and engineering opportunities. This position will have responsibilities that will include performing evaluations, analysis, planning, design, development, and implementation for technologies within our Data Services team. Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate technical leadership within the team
- Proficiency in DevOps and Agile principles
- Apply engineering standard methodologies to analyze and develop software solutions
- Leverages established coding standards, best practices, and automation capabilities to develop solutions to support our users
- Identify technical problems and develop software solutions and automation capabilities
- Have the technical skill to adequately review the software code developed in the project
- Strive for continuous improvement on all aspects within the team and build continuous integration and continuous development pipeline (CI/CD)
- Competency in ITIL processes: Incident, Problem, Knowledge and Change Management. Experience using ServiceNow is preferred.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
- AWS Certifications Preferred
- 2-4 years of working experience
- 3+ years of professional IT experience
- Experience with AWS Cloud Services (AWS Certified Preferred), and containerized applications and container orchestration
- 3+ years' experience with monitoring and performance management/tuning of systems
- 3+ years' experience with networking, storage and Linux/AIX operating systems
- 3+ years' experience with modern programming and scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, etc.)
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Experience working with DevOps, CICD, GitOps, Agile methodologies
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation and how to apply it with services such as Gitlab CI, Jenkins, CodePipeline, or Circle CI
- Understanding of certificates, firewalls, vulnerability management, authentication, and authorization
- Experience with Relational Databases such as MySQL, Postgresql, Db2-LUW
- Understanding of Unit Testing
- Experience with Linux and Windows and shell scripting. Comfortable with CLI
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with all levels throughout the organization
- Ability to be self-directed and collaborative in ambiguous situations.
- Problem solver who enjoys learning on the job and thinking outside of the box
- Strong sense of ownership and the ability to work with limited set of requirements.
Additional Experience Desired:
- Ability to work well with teams not centrally located
- Ability to learn emerging platforms and related technology
- Experience working with Db2-LUW databases, or minimally a desire to learn
- Experience with observability/monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, Dynatrace, and Elk stack
- Experience working with dashboard and reporting technologies such as Grafana and Power BI
- Knowledge of cloud security platforms such as WIZ

$84,350.00
Pay Range - End: $156,650.00
Geographic Specific Pay Structure:
200 - Structure 110: 92,820.00 USD - 172,380.00 USD
200 - Structure 115: 97,020.00 USD - 180,180.00 USD
