DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will serve as a certified and proficient mechanic with a focus on both automotive and heavy equipment. Your primary responsibilities will include performing a variety of analytical, preventative maintenance, and repair tasks across a diverse fleet that encompasses construction machinery, trucks, cars, and hand tools. The equipment you will handle operates on both gasoline and diesel engines, requiring a comprehensive understanding of each. You will be responsible for conducting routine maintenance on diesel engines, which involves essential tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and checking fluid levels. Furthermore, your role will require you to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, followed by implementing the necessary repairs to restore functionality. This will involve inspecting and testing various vehicle systems to pinpoint potential problems, as well as repairing or replacing faulty components, including brakes, transmissions, and fuel systems. Additionally, you will be expected to maintain meticulous records of all maintenance and repair activities, ensuring that documentation is accurate and up-to-date for future reference.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  • Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Conditions of Employment:

  • All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • Certain positions may require employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • All positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
