This position in the Department of Economics, a large and complex department in the College of Letters & Science, plays a critical role in enhancing student career readiness and post-graduation outcomes by offering individualized career advising, running professional development programming, and cultivating meaningful employer relationships. The Economics Career Development Office (ECDO) Career & Outreach Manager takes the lead in developing, expanding, and maintaining relationships with employers across relevant industries with the goal of connecting students with internship, project-based, and full-time employment opportunities. The successful candidate will be a proactive and student-centered professional with a collaborative mindset and a knack for developing mutually beneficial employer partnerships.

Responsibilities include:


  • Facilitate employer-facing events such as info sessions, career treks, and networking receptions for economics students.

  • Partner with Career Office Director to support student professional development events throughout the academic year for undergraduate and master's economics students, potentially including Case Competitions, Job Shadows, etc.

  • Provide one-on-one career advising for master's students and for undergrads, as needed, on job search strategy, resume and cover letter development, networking, interviewing, and offer negotiation.

  • Support students in identifying career goals, building confidence, and navigating internship and full-time job searches.

  • Identify, initiate, and manage partnerships with employers in key sectors such as data analytics, consulting, finance, policy, technology, and public sector organizations.

  • Serve as the primary contact for employers seeking to recruit students from the Department.


NOTE: This position does require on-site, in person work; 100% remote is NOT an option

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Responds to questions and provides information regarding student services, policies, procedures, and employment preparation
  • Participates in campus-wide career services community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college/unit
  • Develops and delivers career development programming and resource materials across various mediums to provide education to students
  • May identify and maintain a professional network of employers or other stakeholders to facilitate career exploration and employment opportunities for students
  • Educates or advises students and recent alumni individually, or in groups through various mediums about career exploration, self-assessment, skills, materials development, and career decisions
  • Supervises unit staff and/or plans, organizes, allocates resources, assesses performance, and leads the operational activities for a significant portion of the unit's career services portfolio

Compensation:

The typical starting salary for this position is $57,000 - $75,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurance and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to build rapport with students, faculty, and employers.

  • Demonstrated ability to be organized and proactive with practical applied knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

  • Excellent intercultural communication.

  • Ability to adapt and meaningfully engage with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in career coaching/advising or employer relations/talent development, preferably with graduate students or students in a quantitative field.

  • Experience designing or supporting co-curricular programs such as mentorships, case competitions, or employer engagement events.

  • Familiarity with career services technology (e.g., Handshake, LinkedIn, Big Interview).


Education:

Bachelor's degree required

Master's degree preferred (counseling, higher education, economics, communication, business, or a related field)
