Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Systems Engineer supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment contract, at Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold AFB, TN. This Mechanical Engineer will be working in our world class Machine and Fabrication shop as a member of an integrated team responsible for maintaining and sustaining the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Job Summary

An exciting career opportunity exists for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead system engineering and configuration management efforts in our Machine and Fabrication Shop facilities. This position is a mix of office work and time spent in the field working with engineers and skilled craft workforce.

Job Duties:

This position provides the following engineering services:

    Responsibility for maintenance, updates, and improvements to shop assets including machine tools, fabrication equipment, shop air systems, and a variety of other equipment used to manufacture metal products.
  • Develop, document, and complete maintenance procedures, mechanical systems operating procedures, sequence of operations, advanced troubleshooting, system optimization, and energy conservation
  • Update and maintain system documentation for equipment/systems of responsibility
  • Analyze spare parts inventories, determine and track needs, and provide organization of spares
  • Determine accuracy of drawings, field revisions, NORs, and sketches and work with designer/drafter to correct
  • Evaluate equipment for improvement, determine deficiencies, improve reliability to increase throughput capability
  • Responsible for the program management of our hand held O2 meters which includes procedure updates for Draeger O2 meters including collaborating with Safety to determine how to set up the meters based on safe exposure limits in confined spaces
  • Identify utilities, perform analysis of alternatives, and coordinate engineering technical aspects of equipment moves.
  • Identify manufacturing equipment/systems for recapitalization
  • Work with reliability engineers to develop maintenance schedules based on condition and health of equipment and ensure supply of materials required to maintain equipment is available when needed to prevent equipment failures
  • Perform root cause failure analyses and other equipment performance analyses when systems or processes fail and recommend remedial actions
  • Conduct and write up system safety hazard analyses and write clear work instructions
  • Respond when systems malfunction as needed, troubleshooting and directive corrective maintenance activities ensuring a timely return to service
  • Develop estimates for improvement projects
  • Work with multiple organizations such as design engineering, planners, schedulers, craft supervisors, engineers in operations and maintenance roles, DoD client, and other contractors
  • Assist skilled craft with troubleshooting and oversee their work; provide leadership and guidance
  • Communicate clearly and utilize various methods of communication
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of 5 years' engineering experience
  • Must be able to maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network
  • Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in systems engineering including understanding of importance of configuration management and elements required to maintain good CM practices
  • Capable and willing to be a technical advocate for systems within the model shop to drive repairs and corrective actions through completion
  • Strong project engineering skills to engage and lead discussions with engineers, management, and Air Force sponsors
  • Experience retrofitting a machine shop workspace or relocating shop equipment
  • Experience calculating and improving reliability of industrial equipment
  • Experience evaluating and technically justifying reliability of industrial equipment
  • Demonstrated experience successfully building relationships with teams across engineering & craft workforce
  • Ability to perform in a dynamic working environment with flexibility to meet mission demands
  • Strong organizational skills to track and facilitate progress on projects
  • Working knowledge of machine shop operations and willingness to interact with all levels to understand system requirements
  • Strong communication skills (including verbal and written)
