Responsible for the preparation, analysis and evaluation of cytologic smears for the presence of absence of normal/abnormal cellular patterns, presence of micro-organisms, inflammatory reactions, endocrinopathies, benign changes, pre-malignant changes, neoplasia and cellular responses to therapeutic agents. May perform HPV testing, Immunocytochemistry and other molecular techniques as required. Key Responsibilities Specimen Screening: Screens gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytologic material, reviewing atypical or abnormal specimens with pathologists. Processing and Evaluation: Performs specimen processing of cytologic material according to Standard Operating Procedures as necessary. Quality Assurance: Adheres to departmental QA/QC standards, including submitting a random 10% of negative gynecologic cases for peer review. Collaboration: Maintains an effective working relationship with pathologists to ensure accurate results. Compliance and Proficiency: Participates in proficiency surveys and successfully completes federally mandated annual proficiency testing (PT). Qualifications Bachelor's degree in medical technology or a science from an accredited school. Must be CLIA eligible for High Complexity Testing. Certification in Cytology, CT (ASCP or IAC). Minimum of 3 years cytology experience preferred.
